I’m looking for some advice and feedback on swapping my front springs and rear leafs. I imagine a lot of these questions are pretty basic, so I apologize as I am not as well versed as the majority on this forum.

1: after looking through various posts, I think I have decided on Geiser springs in the front. Is there any major drawback to Geisers vs Eibachs - specifically regarding progressive vs linear? My thought is progressive would behave more like stock, while adding the height and leveling the truck.

2: in the rear with Deavers+3 do you need the drop shackle to level the truck, or does it sit level without? I have read mixed comments on the forum regarding what is level.

3: I’m located in the broader Houston area, so any feedback on install locations? @OffroadAlliance.com has been mentioned before, but it is a bit of a haul for me, although I am fine with that if they perform good work at competitive pricing.

4: any thing else I need to be looking at with the install of Geisers/Deavers? Control Arms, etc. or is the install of those two compatible with the rest of the truck stock? I don’t want to impact the off-road capabilities (outside of minor sacrifices on center of gravity, etc).

5: lastly, what does the install cost of this setup run (in general)? Not including the cost of parts, but typical labor costs, shop costs, etc?

thanks for any feedback.

Five-Seven,

Installed Geisers and Icon leaf springs 2 weekends ago so here’s my experience...

1. You can definitely tell the ride is stiffer that stock but driving about 300 miles has considerably softened them up already. I really enjoy the ride.

2. Can’t help with Deavers, but I installed the Icons on Option 1 (how they ship) with RPG billet shackles (stock length) and the truck sits pretty level.

3. I contacted Brave Motorsports to do my install but their earliest availability was February. In the end, I installed them myself.

4. In addition to the RPG Billet Shackles, I ended up ordering the following:
- SPC Camber Kit w/ upgraded hardware (https://www.freedommotorsports.us/i-23631270-spc-performance-alignment-cam-kit-w-upgraded-bolts.html)
- Forged Offroad Upgraded Front Bolts (https://forged-offroad.com/product/gen1-ford-raptor-lower-front-shock-bolt-kit/?v=f24485ae434a)
- Forged Offroad Bump Pads (https://forged-offroad.com/product/bump-pad-for-after-market-springs/?v=f24485ae434a)

5. I was quoted about $900 for install and alignment from Brave Motorsports. But because of availability, I ended up installing myself and going to SW Alignment ($80)

Hope this helps.

1) The stock springs are not progressive. They are linear. The progressive Geiser springs have farther spaced coils at the top which decreases spring rate and is “softer”.

2) Theoretically, the +3 will be an inch high unloaded and level with some weight in the bed. Although I have found this to not be the case as every truck’s weight distribution is different depending on passenger weight etc and have even seen differences across leaf packs. I bought icon leaf springs which supposedly sit level unloaded (without the add a leaf installed) and they sat 2 inches higher than stock.

4) technically, because you are adjusting your travel bias towards up travel and decreasing droop at ride height, you will be adding angle to your ball joints at ride height and they will bind before they can fully droop out. Uniball control arms fix this by using a joint with a far greater allowance of movement. I have the camburg arms and love them. They’re also much stronger than stock. I kept blowing out stock ball joints.

Forgot to add that I took the Icons apart and gave them about 2 coats of Amsoil MP HD before putting back together and installing.

The stock springs are a progressive spring.

No, they are not. Every coil is evenly spaced. Progressive springs have unevenly spaced coils.

I see what your saying and I was going by what I've read here on the forum and Guy on YouTube, Keeping it Dirty channel also stated the stock oem springs were progressive but with your picture now I'm not so sure because what you stated about progressive springs is correct.

Hopefully some others can chime in why so many call them progressive?

Any chance maybe the 17/18 springs are progressive without having the live valves? Mine specifically is an 18, and there were numerous posts that stated they were progressive springs, but perhaps they were wrong - or I misread.
