Hi,
I just did my first oil change on my new to me 2018 Raptor ECO-Boost and found it was a mess. The 4" X 8" opening for the oil pan drain ( after removing the cover) allowed the oil to drain w/o a mess until the last pint or so, which proceeded to fill the skidplate and drain off the back onto the floor.

Next, when I removed the front oil filter access panel and removed the filter, instead of draining out the little tray spout Ford engineers thoughtfully provided, it drained out the back of the tray and into the skid plate and overflowed into a pool on the floor of my shop.

Truck was sitting level in my shop when this occurred. I watched this video and he seems to have the same issue.

Is this a common issue? Is there a solution or aftermarket part to address the apparent design flaw?

I did search this part of the forums a couple pages deep, but didn't see any mentions.

Thanks

Try using the search function. This is an old problem that has been solved in a number of ways. Easiest is a funnel, flexible cutting board, or piece of tinfoil.

If you have the metal plug use the FUMOTO drain plug. Get the extended snout for the hose hook up. They needed to cut a few more inches for the OIL CHANGE cut out in the skid plate...bad engineering. Hose really helps there! Filter...it's just gonna suck.

If plastic there are some other drain plugs

dont have this issue on mine
Had both the plastic and metal oil pans and while they eventually drip from the skid plates just directly behind it, its easy to catch

On both the oil filter has drained correctly thru its access hatch
Leveled in my garage

Just experienced this with my new to me 2019. Oil change was a mess to say the least. I installed a Fumoto valve to help with some of it.

I used a paper plate as a funnel for the oil drain plug. This weekend I installed the Fumoto oil drain. Oil filter removal sucks. Get some locking oil filter pliers to break seal; then loosen and let the oil drip through the little 2”x2” hole. Once dripping is done, get a 1 gallon zip loc and put it around the filter and unscrew the rest of the way and remove. No mess.
