dealer won't let me title/register car in different state...

so my 2014 raptor should be here in the next few weeks and my dealer just informed me I had to pay CA sales tax on the car eventhough I'm not registering/titling the car in CA... I would be title/registering the car in NV and have purchased cars from CA dealers w/o any issues.

Dealer is stating FORD won't allow them to sale the truck to out of state buyers and I have to pay the CA sales tax... I know they are dicking with me so I can back out of the sale so the can sale it for more but any ideas how I should pursue this? The difference if I register in NV vs CA is about $3500...

OK, I'm not a legal authority on this but it sounds like BS to me, which is it, Ford won't allow the sale to out of state buyers (BS!) or you have to pay CA Sales Tax? (BS). The dealer should issue you a temporary tag that will allow you to drive back to Nevada and then register it there. If they force you into this somehow (I don't see how) I would report it to the CA tax board to make sure the tax goes to CA and not back into the dealres pocket somehow. I'd call the california motor vehicle department and talk with them.

Funny enough, when I inquired about buying a car in CA, they told me the same BS. But I'm getting my new truck from Oregon and they are giving me a moving permit to get back to NV to register the truck. I assume that's what CA is SUPPOSE to do. Even though I'd love to pay Oregon's state tax. :)

I bought mine from out of state too and was told needed to pay state sales tax but to MY state. They had a 3rd party that handled it with a $150 admin fee charge to do it. When I was taking delivery, the finance guy changed his mind and let me register and pay sales tax at my county DMV instead so I didn't have to pay that $150. I would contact the CA DMV and your state DMV as that dealer is full of BS.

Called ford Ca DMV and nv DMV. Its a rule set by the dealer. I have a feeling they are hoping I back out of the sale so they can make more $ on the deal. Either way, I'm F and have to pay the CA sales tax and it won't ever be driven in CA.
