The 76K used engine was the way to go.

Known to be good (since it made it to 76K miles), and likely would have gone to 250K+.

I'd always go for a low mileage OEM take out vs. a re-built engine given the choice.

My original engine had 86,000 miles on it. The Ford long block with 1 yr warranty is $8,000 and the used engine with no warranty and 76,000 miles was $7,000. The Ford long block seems like an obvious choice.

I know it's hard to pay for an engine with similar miles and no warranty- but takeouts rarely fail. Remans fail often.
