Can anyone help with this question? If I run the engine until the oil is heated to 180-190 degrees, let it drain for 1/2 hour, should I be able to fill with 6 new quarts without over filling?

feed back appreciated.
Thanks. Todd

I would point out that the type and grade of oil would have lay into how much it sticks to the components of the engine. I know your engine is likely quite new, but “IF” any sludge had formed in the bottom of the pan, that would reduce your new allowable capacity.

I know, practice what you preach, but it would be a good idea to measure what you take out each time to compare to what you put in.

My second oil/filter change measured out to slightly over ~5qts that drained out of the pan/filter. First go around I didnt measure and overfilled with 6qts, vacuumed out 1qt and I was good to go. My driveway does point the nose down slightly and both changes were done a slightly warm motor. I put 5qts in and wait 30 minutes, check for leaks and oil level and add if needed.

i suspect there is always 1/2 quart you will never get to come out. Even with a 2 hour hot drain.

i always fill with 5 quarts, start it.....then shut if off and check after it sits fir 5 mins. fill as needed.
