I don’t think you’ll like the R that much if you’re satisfied with your gen 3 and didn’t like the trx. The shortcomings of the gen 3 is probably what got most of us into and R.
If you’re gonna keep the trx get rid of the stock driveshaft right away. It’s beyond hot garbage. East coast drive line sells an awesome one that’s been far better.
Don’t leave the trx for an R. I’d say the same to someone thinking of leaving the R for a trx. They’re both awesome. Definitely don’t leave anything for the 3.5L version. As far as theft, raptors get boosted too although nothing is as easy to steal as a mopar. For $1400 or so I got a security...
That thing does get crazy hot. I like the convertible flat thing the R has. My trx shifter is still pristine but the leather on the seats has a crack forming. I don’t slide in and out either and I’m not obese. If I was a fatty the whole side would probably be worn off by now on the driver side.
I’ve got a 24 and there it’s still plasticish kinda. The shifter feels like something you’d find at an arcade racing game. It’s still a nice interior though. The v8 within the perforated fabric in the center console is a little much. You shouldn’t celebrate something that should have never left.
Lots of guys here probably have both and a few can probably be objective. Off the top of my head here are a couple thoughts and I’ll post more if I think of them. Keep in mind I don’t have many miles on the R yet. Also some of the things I notice are little things that most people wouldn’t care...
I’ve got a digital on my other truck and I used it for a few months and then switched back to the regular one. Unless it was really easy and inexpensive I wouldn’t bother swapping the stock unit out.
I think a fair amount is pumped in. Ford loves fake engine noise. To be fair, they kinda had to do it with those vagisil powered motors in the 2nd and 3rd gens. Even still it’s an awful sound. Like a Dustbuster getting raped by a weed whacker.
First thing I do after I hop in my 24 R is throw the exhaust in Baja. Gotta let the Tesla fanboy neighbors know what’s up. Sometimes it’ll stay there but most of the time it’ll default to lady mode (normal) and I’ll have to put it back in Baja. Is there a way to have Baja become the default setting?
I just knocked out my first oil change at 750 miles. No way I’d go 7,500 like they say you can. Too much shiny stuff for my taste and I’m glad it’s out. I’ll change again at 3k and then every 3k. Went with amsoil and amsoil filter. Amsoil filter is noticeably larger than the stock one. I sent in...
1000. I’ll do the diffs and t case real early as well. I’ll wait till 5k for those though and then every 30k after that. I’ll post the oil analysis results for all the changes. I used to do 5k on my other truck but the results improved when I went to 3k. Maybe that one is just super harsh on...
probably shoulda started on the website but that doesn’t make sense anyway. That would mean the R can take more extreme angles than the 3.5l raptor? I really doubt that but maybe.
