    Orange Caliper Covers

@FordTechOne is correct and I respect his viewpoints 100% of the time even though I do not know him. All OEM Drivetrain Components—of which brakes are part of are well engineered for durability, reliability, performance, cost. Aftermarket is amazing—but they are not going to experiment on...

    GEN 2 Transmission issues

@mmayo Based on my experience, I would recommend you take it to the dealership, shoot them straight/honest, and describe exactly what occurred. You know best how the truck is normally used and performs. Given that you say they are “tuner friendly” perhaps they’ll be friendly regarding the...

BFG KO2 Tread Life Warranty Claim

Greetings all. As some have mentioned, tires are a compromise—tread compound, tread depth, ply strength, sidewall features, etc. As an OEM, I can say from plenty of experience—we look at all of those variables, plus others such as fuel economy and the big one—COST. Example: —I have the...

Warranty Humor: Best Denials (worst escalations)

After over a decade in my chosen post-military engineering career path progression, one tends to get to know quite a few folks across the industry who’ve risen through the ranks. Nerd brotherhood at its finest. Thought you might enjoy some of the recent “greatest hits” that were escalated to...

Switched air filter (oiled to dry synthetic)

@JohnyPython I asked one of my engineering colleagues. She said some paper filters (including the OE ones we install) “have just enough oil/waxy coating to help repel slight amounts of moisture that can cause paper to swell”. Obviously swelling of filter media would be undesirable. I’d...

Switched air filter (oiled to dry synthetic)

@smurfslayer for a lawnmower, IMHO oiled foam is ideal as lawnmower engines have relatively high tolerances, low CFM needs, sharp blade matters more, etc. (and are cheap, non-turbo, etc). 10 microns particles in dust load the heck out of an air filter.

Switched air filter (oiled to dry synthetic)

I live in TX where during the dry season the dust will tend to be rather powdery/fine vs. coarse. Coarse dust packs an air filter (imagine talcum powder) and the micron size (10 microns) My OEM did enough exhaustive testing of aftermarket air filters recently to shift me from an oiled to...

What did you do to your Raptor today? (Gen2)

Polycarbonate snap on covers for the Rigids. I wanted amber for the SAE fog and clear for the flood and driving lights. The light lens are tough, but I figured a little extra inexpensive protection wouldn’t hurt. The only light that I’ve ever cracked previously sat low on the bumper (Jeep...

What did you do to your Raptor today? (Gen2)

Like many, finally had Rigids installed. I was not planning to, but my OEM specs them on certain trucks from the parent. Vendor was at corporate to discuss warranty coverages/procedures for OEM installs vs. aftermarket and made an offer I couldn’t refuse—a sign of a customer-centric corporate...

Gen 2 Raptor Prices vs Pending Gen 3 Raptor?

@smurfslayer I agree with you. Ford has demonstrated mastery in this process and all OEM eyes including our smart folks are on them as well. It isn’t the how to do it that is skillful (basic economics)—its the execution and seeing it play out for over a decade. FoMoCo, tip of the hat.

Gen 2 Raptor Prices vs Pending Gen 3 Raptor?

It depends—on production numbers planned for the Gen 3 and Raptor R If the Gen 3 has nice boost in production numbers vs. Gen 1-2 (good idea to me, so that a loaded Gen 3 costs less than a stripped TRX)—this should impact used Gen 2 resale prices which are insane. A good trade-off could be...

Query re: mileage difference between 2WD and 4A

——- @FordTechOne captured drivetrain friction losses. Calibration setups/adjustability settings of AWD trends to be different different in cars vs. a top heavy/front weight biased pickups. The calibrations for a front end biased truck with a light rear—will be different from a car where the...

    Falken Wildpeak AT3W—Initial Impression

Good morning all, For those considering the Falken Wildpeak AT3W for their Gen 2 Raptor—here is a 5000 mile update: -Beginning Mileage: 30400 mi, new, installed by CarMax; 5 tires (they swapped my spare for an AT3W) -Current Mileage: 35488 mi, (rotated/balanced by Ford Dealer during oil/filter...

    Onboard air compressor recommendations

Late to the topic. I enjoyed this article which hit my news feed at work. I prefer portable suitcase ARB, but the best solution is one that fits your budget/needs—and either beats no air. https://trail4runner.com/2020/07/18/power-tank-co2-vs-arb-twin-compressor/

2020: Two Warranty Case Studies & Good Video

@FordTechOne Sir as always thank you. I respect your ethical, competent, consistent approach borne of experience in addressing us. If you have a moment—please let me know if I missed anything. The engineer in me shakes my head every, single, time—when I hear of folks pushing more HP/TQ...

    Raptor or Superduty?

@Yf22jet One consideration is—if it is important to you to be able to park your truck in the garage. My wife and I have our Raptor SuperCrew and an F250 CrewCab w/6.75” bed. Both fit in our garage because we have a very long/wide garage for the trucks. Most standard garages may be lucky to...

2020: Two Warranty Case Studies & Good Video

@TheTeej Work=Force x Distance. A larger diameter tire forces the drivetrain to push a lot harder to go the same speed—significantly increasing the amount of torque load on the transmission. @FordTechOne may be able to clarify this, but my understanding is the 10spd 10r80 is rated for...

2020: Two Warranty Case Studies & Good Video

@Muchmore Thank you. Candidly, this topic is one that is intensely debated within my organization (and I’d imagine in others). I think about it and discuss it with many. Five of a vast plethora of reasons I brought it up: 1. Dealerships profit significantly from unfitting aftermarket...

@1BAD454SSv2 If you need to rationalize a lack of integrity, do it with someone else. Do what you need to do. Please let me know if this did not address accurately: 1. I work for a Japanese OEM and own a Ford Raptor. 2. Unethical practices by any individual or...

@1BAD454SSv2 Easy answer. This is why there are factory recalls, TSBs, etc. Nothing man-made is perfect and design flaws exist. I have/always will consistently state that integrity/honesty is non-negotiable to me (whether OEM personnel, dealer personnel, or consumer). It simply disgusts...

    GEN 2 EXTENDED WARRANTIES

I recommend OEM factory extended warranty hands down for consistency. Too many variables for third-party. We have MaxCare on one vehicle because it was inexpensive and I took the calculated risk—as I don’t foresee major end items such as powertrain going south. We stick with OEM factory...

GEN 2 Need Transmission rebuild/replace. Recommendations on best route?

@FrankL1 Sir, thank you. Candor and honesty are refreshing. I simply am saddened when I see posters suggesting that one should try to switch wheels to make things look like you didn’t have 37” tires. If you need a 3/4 ton, I would recommend you have a reputable shop install a...
