I ripped that entire POS out and replaced it with a nice, new Kenwood system.
Steering wheel controls work. HVAC indicator comes up in the new radio.
Crutchfield or local quality, hi-fi shop is your friend.
With the radio, adapter, and install, I was into it well under a grand. Best upgrade...
so new-ish to me raptor came with CAI thing.
well today i managed to **** the battery by leaving key in. popped the hood to jump it and noticed....
air filter completely disconnected and laying there. doh!
apparently didn’t like the off-roading and the flange that the filter attaches to...
Hi Jango -
If you do swap to any cold air intake style, I would like to purchase your stock setup for the Gen I 6.2.
Please PM me.
I also have a cold air style for the 6.2 that I could get you, but have no idea what brand. It looks nice and makes happy induction sounds. Can send pics.
If...
sorry. we’re saying same thing but getting crossed in internet land.
i meant that by looking at weight/hp, the raptor looks better compared to trx than the absolute hp difference would indicate.
not that on a weight/hp raptor would put up a bigger number.
thats power. i wonder how...
changing gear ratios doesn’t gain or lose torque.
all you are doing is changing rpm at a given speed and transmission gear.
actually with the 10 speed trans, changing ratios is arguably less important. as the truck can find a happy operating range.
fair question.
35 to 37 is more like a 6% jump.
the next gear ratio up from 4.10s is 4.56., which is more like 10% leaving final gearing a bit shorter than it would be.
and honestly, the difference in actual RPMs between 35s and 37s is really nothing.
37 = one less inch travel. One extra inch sidewall.
I wouldn’t run any more or less psi between the two tire sizes. But, I’ll take the extra ground clearance and sidewall.
The larger diameter also helps smooth things out over rocks ans square edged terrain. Our fire roads here are littered...
As we’re kicking these trucks around, it is interesting to note test claimed weights are calling the Raptor 600 pounds lighter.
that’s huge! Like a couple dirt bikes and gear in the back huge.
horsepower differences are better expressed as weight / hp. In which case the current Raptor looks...
I have zero to add to the tech side here, but perhaps a bit from the industry side.
a lifetime ago, I worked product management in the auto aftermarket industry. every product is a compromise of many things including: ease of installation and cost.
there is also a wide rang of what is...
If you haven’t already thought out how the ECM and BCM will talk or not talk. And if you don’t have the entire electronic integration figured out...
the weight of the engine is the very least of your worries
last week:
- ordered new SVC rear bumper
- removed factory bumper
- yanked spare from under truck
- sketched dovetail cuts
- began fabbing bed-mounted tire carrier
- tailgate is going away. ordered aftermarket backup camera and wiring harness to mount to bumper
