Right, but that only proves his point more. Nobody needs 700+ HP, offroad capability, AND high-end luxury to travel to work, school, or Starbucks.
Therefore, stating that the Raptor R must be accessible to the "average Joe with a paycheck" is silly.
Speed and liability, and to a lesser extent, MPG.
RAM had to get tires specially designed for the TRX, whose speed limiter of 118 mph is based on the tires.
There are few, if any, other 35" offroad tires out there with a speed rating over 100 mph.
Now consider 37s - what would be the point in...
Maybe. Figure the engine premium will be about $10k.
The R will almost certainly not be offered with 37s, so I think the engine premium has to be added onto the the cost of a decked-out 35s instead.
My guess is $85k base, rising to $90k top end with not many standalone options available.
I almost think the hype around the TRX is causing inflated expectations. Like, yeah, it has 700hp, cool, but it's also a big heavy full-size truck. Of course it isn't going to feel as fast as a Redeye Challenger or a Trackhawk or whatever.
Still a little weird that he didn't like it coming from...
There is absolutely zero chance that the R will be anything like you describe.
It will come with every high-end feature possible, probably mandatory, not just as options.
It will not have a roll bar, five-point harnesses, etc.
Besides, it's just more HP, right? What does that even matter to...
Why do so many people on this forum keep saying something to this effect.. "Ford will sell every Gen 3 they make"?
You know who else sells every vehicle they make? Literally every car manufacturer in the world.
The Raptor is tied to the F150 cycle, which will probably not be redesigned for four-plus more years. I doubt they would branch the Raptor off into it's own class and modify it independently.
It's all speculation. Some say that the exhaust is different, but I couldn't tell them apart. All other alleged sightings rely on "the V8 sound", which is tough to discern via an Instagram clip.
Absolutely nothing concrete is known about the R beyond that Ford said it will exist at some point...
