Rusty/Broken Wheel Studs?

The truck is a 2018 with 3000 miles on it, and the new wheels where put on around 1400ish miles.

The lug nuts on one side broke off, thank god not all of them did and was able to not make this situation worse than it was already. IMG_0444.jpg IMG_0454.JPG IMG_0455.JPG

Truck has yet to be taken off road and doesn't sit in water. Has anyone had this issue with a GEN 2?

with the rotor removed and thus the hub more exposed, I would lightly sand down the all the rust and apply some lube on the surface to prevent from rusting.

Who put those wheels on?

The wheels originally where put on by Discount Tire. Then I had local shop put on the adjustable RPG collars, which the wheels had to come of and a front alignment.

Seems strange as I would think overtightening the lug nut but they are all as you can see rusted out on the one side. Make me think it is a manufacture defect.

They are rusted where they lug nuts didn't cover them. Those exposed threads having a very slight amount of surface rust means nothing.

Discount Tire over tightened your lugs. They went beyond the elastic range of steel and the lug yielded. There is no possible way to remove them without breaking the now work hardened brittle steel. They owe you new lugs, but I wouldn't let them touch it given their poor work to date. Even the ones that didn't snap are still probably in the yield range and will eventually fail once they are "worked" some more.

Tire Discounters (not discount tires) did the same shit on a Fusion I bought used. The dealer had TD replace the tires before it went on the lot. When I went to pull a wheel, I had to lean on the 4-way with everything I had, the metal was popping an tinking the whole time. I got lucky and they all came off. ******* idiots.

Edit: I bet if you get a good pic of one the the still "good" lugs removed, you can easily see the variance in the thread pitch where the lug yielded and got longer.

This is what I was thinking as well, just thought the lugs had been over tighten or under tightened. Either way I had all the Studs on the front right wheel replaced as it was a few more that broke in the process of taking the lugs off.

I believe that Discount had done this originally and the shop that took the wheels off after to put the RPG collars on didn't notice it at the time. Which is where I took the truck back to as I thought it might have been them who had done it.

I have yet to personally see the lugs, but had been told it looks like they are rusting from the inside out.

I didn't notice that part of your post, could have been either group really- who knows.

That's why I work on my own shit.
