Today I wrote Ford a lemon law letter for the sync system.

The short story is that I have taken it in for repair 8 times for a total of 16 days and this is not working. The sync system navigation screen is black each time the truck starts up and after about 5 minutes reboots for several minutes and comes to life. Dealer has done a master reset, upgraded software, replaced APIM twice and replaced BCM. They have worked with Ford hotline and a Ford engineer. Nothing is helping. They also managed to scratch up the whole dash while working on it.

This is very much - no bueno.

Well I'm happy to say that this was finally fixed yesterday and appears to be working (knock on wood.)

So after bringing the truck in for service on this issue 10 times, for a total of 36 days out of use and at service, the truck was fixed.

The Ford engineer installed a new APIM (for the 3rd time) but this time the Ford engineer "programmed" the APIM while installing it. Whatever that means. But it appears to be fixed and finally working.

What a cluster.

I'm in the same boat right now.... my truck was having screen freezing issues that took many visits to fix and now it's back in with the same exact issue you described. Very frustrating.

Scratched dash?

They scratched the #&$^ out of the dash while taking panels off to access the APIM and BCM.

One of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced with a vehicle. It can be fixed. The dealer was clueless. Ford was clueless too. Ultimately they were able to fix it. As noted above it required a new APIM being programmed by a Ford engineer on site.

In this ordeal I also learned a few things about exactly what a POS the MFT Microsoft Sync system is. The system is actually designed to reboot itself once a day, I believe to clear itself out. The idea is that this would most often happen when the vehicle is off. What kind of system needs to reboot once a day? A very unstable one.

Oh yeah, also because this Sync system is such a POS, Ford has extended the warranty on the Sync system's APIM. According to other sites, the APIM warranty was extended to 5 years.

And why the hell would Ford think that joining forces with Microsoft would be a good idea? The sync system is a POS and the only feature I dislike about the truck....
