If we met in Seattle...

From Seattle to Dawson Creek, BC = 817miles
From Dawson Creek, BC (Mile 0 of the ALCAN) to Fairbanks, Alaska (the unofficial endpoint of the ALCAN) = 1488miles
Driving time from Seattle to Fairbanks = 7-10 days

Round trip? 4610miles and 14-20 days.

I'm going to grab a copy of The Milepost and start doing some research. But so far:

-I'm leaning toward September since the skeeters are done and the colors are starting to turn.

-maybe it would be cool to mix in some car ferrying. Its expensive ($2000 for a Raptor, two people and a dog, and your most basic cabin!) and its slow (3 days from Haines to Bellingham) but maybe?

-maybe we don't have to do the whole thing? Maybe we shorten the one way down based on how much time folks have, since don't forget the times I've quoted assume you're already in Seattle. Add time for getting home to and from there.

Just spitballin here. Please throw out any/all idears. This (or a trip like it) has been on my 'to do' for many many years, and it came up again around the campfire during the Mojave Road trip. If some of us can pull this off...

What say you?

If we are going....Denali needs to be in the mix somewhere. Camping or a combination of camp/hotel. When is the fly and skeeter season over. JP7 please chime in to help us out. I have more links that I will post later today, I have many question and have an interest as we discussed on mojave road.

I could be in to this tour! It's only a few hours through the mountains and I could hook up with you in Dawson Creek.
Summer is crazy busy for work but I could take a couple weeks in September as long as its not late Sept. Hunting season hits and I lose half my staff for a week around here...

CRAP!!! I would love to do a trip like that!

No way I would stay away from my family that long but that would be awesome!

I am still on the wrong coast but when I get back to that side, I'll be in on that trip like nobody's business. By then my boy will be old enough to come along and partake in the fun!

Fellas, fellas, fellas! Come on up!!!

For what its worth, my drive from Salt Lake City to Fairbanks only took 5 days. Realize I was pretty much driving with the goal of getting up here as quick as possible with minimal stops. So, I think 7-10 days is a good approximation depending on your stops.

Denali is about 2 hours past Fairbanks if you do want to get down that way also. From there you can continue down to Anchorage and then take the southern route back east passing by Valdez on the way back to Tok.

Let me know if you need any help with arrangements up this way.

That would be an awesome trip, 4500 miles for me from Detroit. I just did 1400 yesterday Detroit to Naples, FL towing a trailer and it wasn't too bad.

Seattle is 2400 miles from me. I'd love to do a trip like this, and my wife and I are already looking into an Alaska trip, but I don't think that she can get the vacation. Hell it will take us 3 days each way just to get to Seattle.

Yeah this would be epic, for sure. Sounds like if Denali is in the mix, we'll need every bit of those 18-20 days to really enjoy. Add travel time to and from Seattle for us and we're looking at a solid three weeks on the road. That's a LOT of time away from work...

Potentially in. The ALCAN isn't that big of deal imo. Sorta like driving through Arkansas's ****** roads. I think it would be more fun to get this set up, ferry the trucks up to Alaska from Seattle, then do a Raptor Run through the state. If I am going to have my truck in Alaska, I'm going back to Denali. Alaska makes Texas look small. It is a 12 hour drive from Anchorage to Fairbanks..that is not even half the state. Another thing is that Sept is typically starting to get cold in Fairbanks. Snow usually flies before the end of Sept at least once.

Yes..this is cost prohibitive. Transportation costs, logistics and support are a nightmare. The idea of driving highway up to Alaska is boring to me. If I have my Raptor, I am going off road. In fact, if I am going back to Alaska I am going off road. The ferry ride does absolutely suck though the inside passage is fantastic!
