Lesson learned the hard way! I was (still am) looking for gen 1 seat covers. I responded to a P.M. from him saying 'he knows a guy that has these' [email protected]. Also used the email name of Kelvin Mertens and an email of stevelavender12@gmail. I responded , he said he had them, even sent me a picture. Said he wanted $500, which was a fair price. After sending him the money by paypal (gift), I got the delay then shakedown for $120 additional for shipping. Thats when I started to smell a rat.

He wanted me to do a zelle or vinmo transaction, but since I didnt have either account, I held firm for payal on the initial $500. Then he lowered his "shipping amount $70, still high and again, insisting on cash app payment. I started searching FRF for past seat cover posts and there it was, the very pic this ****** sent me from a 2017 post by RZRXP1000,

So I got scammed by a ******* forum troll! Shoulda known, the signs were there

Lessons relearned; CHECK THE POST COUNT. INSIST ON A PIC WITH A DATE AND HIS FORUM NAME, most of all, buyer beware!

Thanks gang. Ya it sucks balls. I can absorb the loss, $500, it's not that much. Just ****** me off that I fell for the con. I dont know how I could have the ******* banned, he had no post count and just communicated once by PM to refer "his friend". Probably has another forum name already or moved on to another forum for awhile looking for the next sucker.

You do have legal recourse. if you sent electronic payment, PayPal in particular, you can let them know you were scammed. file a complaint and talk to your local pd.

I had a similar situation occur on a gun forum. Some university cop advertised a beretta 1201 f/s. I sent payment, and about 5 days later he sends a message that he’s ... had a change of heart and no longer wanted to sell, payment has already posted. I got no response for a couple days so I notified his ℅ - he actually was LE and a colleague locally. I indicated I’d been rooked for about $500, felony weight. I filed the report, swore the complaint and got the ball rolling.

Our team got in touch with his, who ordered him to return the funds. i assume there was the implicit ‘or be fired and possibly incarcerated’ language but that didn’t concern me. I got a personal check within the week, and then it cleared a couple days hence. I was worried he would try to stop payment too but didn’t happen. I posted on the forum where it happened, warning others and 3 other people chimed in that similar things happened to them.

The gun forum would not ban this guy, even though he’d done the same thing before. Or rather - the moderator did ban him, but the forum owner knew him and unbanned him.

caveat emptor.
Check the post history of potential sellers.

Contact paypal, tell them you never received the item and say you didn't know you were sending it as a gift and if they don't reverse it, you'll dispute it with your CC or issuing bank. You can still dispute ACH transactions with your bank just the same as you would with a CC. Paypal will lock your account until you clear it up, but that's worth $500 I'd say.
