I'm about to wire up a pair of Rigid Dually's (flood) as additional reverse lights to Aux #4.

(my first mod on this truck, ever)

My question would be.. Rigid's wiring set up comes with 3 wires/ends that go to their own switch, but since I'm using the upfitter switches, I can completely ignore that right?

So do I cut it, or just leave it?

Basically the red wire with the metal ring goes to my passthru wire (after i mate it behind the glove box) and the black wire gets grounded.. and all that other stuff that should go to the rigid switch just gets ignored or cut, right..?

Also, is there any write up about sneaking wire from the rear bumper all the way into the glove box area? I'm assuming I'm going to have to buy some gauge of cable and add to rigid's provided wiring.

Lastly, in the discussion about soldering versus crimp connectors, vs, butt connectors, etc. What about the type that is... strip an inch off both wires, twist them together, and then screw on the plastic cap that has metal threads on the inside... is that a decent method in any way/shape or form?

I know NOTHING about wiring and electrical, so I apologize if these questions are ultra-newbie-status.

thanks!!

Im not 100% sure about a ridid light but I got to believe that its a wire for a dimmer or to strobe the light. I have Baja Designs lights and thats what the extra wire is for. I just left the wire there and used the power and ground.

Im trying to find a post in here about but no luck. The web site doesnt say much about it either. They have a 1800 number call them and ask...

I run a conduit with a single 12 ga wire from the battery to the back of the truck. Installed a relay and tapped the backup light wire to switch on the relay. Lights come on when I place the vehicle in reverse. Works great!

What did you guys use to hold the wires together while you soldered? Just twist and solder?

Do not use the screw type wire nuts like you see in homes. You could use a "crimp" wire nut inside the vehicle but under the hood you're going to want something water tight like a soldering and shrink tubing.

Question for you guys from someone who is clueless when it comes to this at least.

If I am taking fog lights off can I just leave the wiring linked under the glove box connected. Then basically cap and cover the one in the engine bay? Rather not go through disconnected under the glove box if I can avoid it. I will probably be putting something else there in the next 6 months.

I am learning as I go as well, but I don't see anything wrong with leaving the wires as is. Cap off the end in the engine where you disconnected your fog lights and weatherproof the end. The wire is only "live" when your associated upfitter switch is on so just make sure to leave it off.

That's what I was thinking too. Thanks. Just have to keep my son away from those heat seeking missile switches.
