I know your looking for a true winter tire, but i have to say, the stock BFG's are great in the snow. I've driven on them in blizzards here in New England and they have never let me down.

I felt that the stock BFGs were subpar in our winters. I have heard good things about the Wildpeaks and negative things about the wear on the duratracs. But the duratracs do well in the snow.
duratracs really dont wear that bad. depends how much you drive, and like you said. year round they will wear more due to softer tread compund. which helps in winter. theyre a great choice. brother has em on his 2wd chevy and they do fine.Digging a bit more it seems like the people who complain about the tread wear are using them year round. Would make sense if they're a softer tire meant for cold weather that they'd wear quicker in year round use.

The Falkens and BFG don't have a snowflake on the side do they? Not being a ***** genuinely asking.
My opinion, which sucks as much as the next guy's is that the stock BFGs are horrid in the snow.
I run mt's in crazy north ontario winters and ice roads. My mud grapplers should be renamed to snow grapplers when aired down.
As for icy highways..... Dont text and drive and take er easy and you wont have any problems
