I live in Northern Alberta, Canada. Minus 31 celsius this morning. The heater was still blowing hot air, I dont see not having 1 beieng a problem. Guess Ill see when I do some highway driving.

Just a note of caution!
Blocking the flow of air over the rad may cause stress on the fan bearing, yes the motor may warm up quicker but at what cost! If you live in extreme cold conditions you could install a magnetic or bolt on oil pan warmer, these are better than block heaters because they heat the whole engine and not just the coolant, also when starting from cold the oil is not thick and flows easier.

Last winter we saw temps -45F had no problem warming up the cab without plugging in the vehicle. Usually anytime its below zero I plug it in though. Couple of people had stuck cardboard in there newer f-150's what farmers like to do and they kept coming in for there vehicles over heating and cooling fans running excessively. Just a something to keep in consideration.
