Want to install a winch on my Raptor, but need advice.

I want to get a winch that is of good quality.

Not heavier than it needs to be, no point in hanging excess weight out front.

Has a decent amount of line on it, my friends winch has so little line, its all but useless.

And I see they can be had with cable, or some synthetic rope stuff, is 1 better than the other.

Big J, sounds good, I read the entire thread. Going that route to after reading that. I never even considered it, just always had a winch on my trucks and jeeps.

How hard is the handle pull when really loading it up, do you know.

I've used it a couple times just to test it out and make sure I know what the heck I'm doin, should I ever really need it. The pull is significant, but not crazy hard.

I think you're going to dig the versatility of this thing. Good choice!

"the pull is significant, but not crazy hard"

Translation:
It is going to be nut busting hard for the rest of us...

Warn is the way to go for winches per the off road / crawling community I've talked to, if you decide to go that way. I have the 9.5ti.

Curious, what bumper you have, and how is it with that big pile of weight hanging off the front?

I use a warn on my 1 ton diesel, but its so heavy, and always so loaded down, it really does not matter.

I use the stock bumper - used the SDHQ mounting plate, and I personally haven't noticed the increased weight at all. The entire plate & winch combo isn't a whole lot - percentage wise - compared to the truck.
