Why would oil show up by oil cap or AFE intake?

I don't, I just asked for the PCV valve for a '12 Raptor. I'm heading up there in a few though and I think the part # will be on the box. I'll post it after I get home with it.

Thank you!! This is what my smaller tube is going to. For that price maybe just as easy to grab one at dealership if they have it in stock. I'll be in town tomorrow anyways and can grab it if they do.

Can you compare the two by shaking it and see if you feel a difference.
A least you can pin the problem down.

Soooooo... Couple things.

First, I was being stupid. The PCV is NOT on the intake line from the AFE (duh, I wasn't thinking). It's on the PASSENGER side of the motor. It can still cause the blowback problem of course, but it's not physically where the oil/AFE is.

So, I went and got the new valve, pulled the old one (seems to rattle just fine, I don't think it's bad), and threw in the new one. I haven't had a chance to clean the oil yet, and I think it'll take some time to tell if I'm still getting blowback, but I don't think it was the PCV. It felt fine to me, but for $13, whatever, I'll leave the new one in and hang onto the old one.

I have 600 miles of factory warranty left and I'll be bringing this in under warranty soon.

I've attached the picture of the PCV packaging with numbers. Pretty simple to install. You'll need some sort of pliers and to be really tall, crawl into the engine compartment via the tire, or get a step stool.

Is the part a plastic elbow? I installed a catch can and I guess I didn't observe that being a PCV valve.

The part itself (the PCV) isn't an elbow, but there is an 90 degree connector that snaps onto it. The PCV location is BARELY in your picture, but you can't see it clearly.

All of my oil is on the OTHER side of the motor, where the crank INTAKE is from the CAI, so that catch can wouldn't do anything for me in that location.

Thanks Dane,

Next time I drain my catch can I'll have to pull out the elbow again and take a better look.

Yeah, your situation isn't going to be a quick and easy fix.

Well, it should be easy.

Step 1) drive to dealership
Step 2) hand over keys
Step 3) wait
Step 4) pick up truck from dealership

I'm at 35,350 miles. :favorites13:

I still think repositioning the passenger side hose away from the TB is the best fix.
Take a look at how Whipple/Ford SVT designed it. the hose goes all that way up to the air filter and the smaller hose is in behind the TB.
Think about it, there has to be a reason for this. There's even an arrow with flow direction.

Even Ford Racing and JDM put a breather cap in place of the hose.

Dealer is saying it's the AFE hose. Says oil is "soaking through" and it's poor quality. Quoted me $100 to fix it.

Yeah right.

****************************
Edit: Kudos to AFE. They're sending me new hoses to try (for free). So, I've replaced the PCV, I'll replace the hoses and clean it all off. Then I'm going to monitor it for buildup again and go from there.

I replaced the hoses a couple days after my last post. I also cleaned up all the oil. I have no explanation, but the oil has not reappeared as of yet. Granted, I haven't had any serious off-road revving adventures, but it's been nearly two months and I see no fresh oil.
Again, the two things I did were replace the PCV and replace the two hoses on the AFE intake. I'll continue to monitor.

Thanks for the update!

I put hose clamps and stock oil cap back on and so far so good. Hadn't opened hood in a month or so, but will this weekend for oil change.
