Wrap the pillars with clear bra. I've been wrapping all my vehicles since 08 with clear bra and I make all my patterns with tracing paper or clear contact shelf liner from Homedepot or Michael's.



You can either score the film or cut all the way through. 6 squirts of baby shampoo in a 32 oz spray bottle. Spray the pillar, squeegee clean and repeat to clean. Spray slip solution, then lightly squeegee down with short overlapping strokes. Sunny, warm and less than 50% humidly is ideal. If you make a mistake or get trash in the film, lift up, spray and repeat. Get some extra film for mistakes and learning.

As a consumer, why should I care?
I'd never try to tell someone else when to care or when not to.
If I’m paying for a new car, the price of which factors in warranty services, I don’t care if the dealer or the manufacturer has to lose money to fix a problem that is due to poor quality or design.
That was my point, it is not the dealership that sold the vehicle, or the engineer who designed a bad torque converter, or the welder who missed a weld on one turbine blade, or the manufacturer who installed it that actually lose money. I suspect the manufacturing company (sub-contracted usually) of the bad converter will have to send a free replacement, that's fine, but it is the mechanic who eats the labor cost of the install, one dude who had NOTHING to do with the defect in the first place.

I'm not trying to suggest that the consumer should not get things repaired under warranty. Not at all! If I have anything go wrong on mine I'll be there too. I was just pointing out that warranty repairs suck the most for people not involved in the mistake. The consumer and the poor mechanic.

(I am not a professional mechanic, just a shade-tree one, I just know several "real" mechanics)

Edit: went back and read your earlier post. If true and a dealership mechanic is getting paid a non-standard rate, something other than the car is broken.

What does bug me about what I read is that Ford has 'national backorders' while they're still punching out new vehicles. Suggests prioritizing customer acquisition over customer retention.

That said, in spite of the horror stories on FRF, my truck has been great thus far, both from a fun standpoint and from an infant mortality standpoint.

This is my first Ford, and I already see the differences between how they handle recalls and problems (via this forum). People tend to give Ford a pass because they either prefer to fix the problem themselves or think this is normal.
I don't think what people tell you on this forum is the best way to judge the experience you'll get if you need warranty work as dealers vary greatly. Many buy a vehicle one place and then take it elsewhere for service and expect them to drop everything and cater to them because they have a problem. I found the best dealer in my area and buy all of my vehicles there and when I have an issue, I get a loaner and great service.

Yea I am planning on greasing the shit out of my leafs this weekend and then messing with the roof rails like you mentioned.... Hoping to get rid of some of this noise.... Embarrassing when you pull up to Starbucks and your truck is making all sorts of squeaks!!

As far as the engine goes I suppose it is what it is for now and hopefully nothing worse happens.

I really enjoy the offroad experience of the Raptor and maybe that is part of the trade off?? Your truck just starts to squeak a lot after beating the shit out of it off roading?

I spray my leafs with Boeshield T9 and it works like a charm.

Long list of mods on your truck. Reckon that may have anything to do with your noises? Surely the "Deaver +3" springs you have would be quieter than stockers? :)

Yea def the deavers are adding to my complaint list..... seems like everytime i mod something just makes more issues lol .....

Warranty provider? You mean Ford? Well I'm sure they take some amount of the loss, even if just the cost of coordination and paperwork. But the people pushing that paper do not get paid 50-60% of their normal pay to handle it.

The mechanic does get paid. Nearly every job that can be performed on a vehicle is listed as X number of hours. A good mechanic can complete the job in a little under that figure, sometimes a job can exceed what the book shows. This pay scheme is called flag rate. So if the torque converter swap shows as 9 hours the mechanic will be paid a predetermined amount (nine hours times his hourly pay rate) for the job. But in the case of a warranty repair (note I'm only talking dealerships here) the mechanic gets paid for 5 hours instead of 9.

All of the professional mechanics I know (including my son) no longer work for dealerships. They got tired of having to eat so much warranty hours. I will never say there are not quality mechanics at a dealership, or that the ones at independent shops are always talented. But dealerships have a brain-drain to some degree because of these insane warranty practices. in case you're curious they say (unscientific) that Honda/Toyota have the most warranty repairs, but one refused to work for Ford because (in Texas) over half the vehicles in the shop are trucks. You get paid the same rate to install a cylinder head in an F350 as a Civic, and one is clearly easier.

I will not allow my dealer to even change my oil. Nothing personal with them, I just trust myself more. Now if my Raptor needs a new torque converter under warranty I'll let them do it. If it needs one out of warranty I'm going to a private shop after a personal referral.

Thanks, good to know. I've always turned my own wrenches, this warranty thing... and using a shop in general... is new to me.

I figured that from a mechanic's billable hours, warranty work (from a 'decent' provider like the MFG or CPO, not one from the scam mailers) was treated like any other repair, and that the dealership charged what's effectively a claim to what's effectively an insurance company (warranty provider). That it's treated differently makes warranties less desirable in my book.
