who's starter makes a "ping" sound on startup?

doesn't do it all the time, but at the end of the start cycle i sometimes get a 'ping' like the teeth are hitting some metal...

anyone else hear this?

btw - this isn't the wastegate rattle, but definitely starter based noise..

I've noticed the same thing on morning start-ups, just one quick light metal "ping" directly after the engine turns over. I too associated this as a starter related noise.

Not to stir the pot, but have you checked the weep hole? It may be clogged up.

sounds like the bendix pushing the starter gear into the ring gear, then retracting a smidge making a slight ringing noise, kinda
