How about the salt flats??? Like boneville?
Some of them are increadable large areas
And are far from civalisation so no other lights from the surroundings

And because they are created by the drying of water they are as flat can be on the outside of a globe ;)

Anywhere off Oldsmobile or Cadillac. There's plenty of wide open space out there. Especially the really wide dirt roads with shrubs on the sides. What was wrong with Octotillo?

Cool ill have them check into it. We've tried many spots like Ocotillo but when they are so flat and there are no trees/bushes to reference the distance say 1000 yards can look alot shorter.

Tried an old abandoned runway? There should be some close to you that would be much easier to do than to make a longer special trip for it.

HAHAHA--could meet you at the ranch in New Mexico but it is 37 miles to the nearest town/gas station/hotel. On the Texas NM border SE of Carlsbad.

I would find an old airfield, like El toro in Irvine CA. Or wait... Pismo Beach Dunes have more than enough room to accommodate!

Dry lake beds don’t work well because they reflect too much of the light so therefore they don’t give a true picture of the light. Cal City and Adelanto won’t have big enough shrubs or trees for the lights that can shine 1500-2000 feet. We have gone out to many of these places and taken photos and they just don’t give you a sense of distance if you don’t have a very large object in the background. We took the photo in the original post right behind our shop and it worked pretty well except that it wasn’t quite flat enough. Unfortunately, they built houses back there so we can’t use it anymore.

We ask that participants send photographs of the potential sites in daylight and at night, along with GPS coordinates.

Where is Wilson Farms? In south dakota?

Keep in mind that we are bringing in a professional photographer and 3rd party independent team to verify that all of the lights are what you can buy commercially. We will be including other light brands in the photos as well

Thanks
BD
