Negative. And isn't that basically all you need to know?

This started because I was thinking about what I wanted to do to my truck, and when I did a search for horsepower claims, I found nothing specific. Honestly, I can't even find a lot of empirical data about bolt-on power.

There was a thread where I asked about CAI, SPD adapters, downpipes, and a tune. No one had a straight answer. Some people said you'd gain plenty, others said nothing at all. Most people seemed to feel that the tune was the only thing that would make a difference. When I called the two tuners that keep popping up in searches, they said the power gains would be exactly the same whether I did the CAI, and exhaust or not. That means they're not really tuning, they are just sending you a canned tune to put in your truck, and hope for the best. So does it take going radical with the build to get an honest tune and increase in power? If so, who's doing radical builds on Raptors? That's how I got to this post.

That is an interesting way you arrived at your conclusion. I also called several of the tuners and they told me the same thing. So, instead of assuming they were incompetent, I decided NOT to buy a CAI and only do a minimal exhaust upgrade for sound reasons.

There have been several posts that say the bigger turbos are still being investigated, so I will wait for someone else to figure it out. In the meantime, I will take the extra HP from a "canned" tune with SPD Turbo Adapters and enjoy how much better my truck runs over the stock tune.

Well, that escalated quickly.

Not to further the arguing and banter ruining another thread on this forum, but the replacement (mathematically) for displacement is RPM. Sport bikes make hundreds of horsepower per liter.

So, anyone making big power? What have you done and what did you gain? One dude listed what he had done and what he thought he was making. Anyone get any dyno tuning instead of a canned tune?

I keep reading people who claim to make a lot of power, but nothing specific. Which trucks have blown up? What caused it? Bad rods/crank/piston? Not enough fuel system? Limit of the block? Oil starvation? Anything more than hearsay?

I'm happy to post up the details that I get once I get my truck back. While it wasn't tuned ( tried MPT and removed it due to usability), It's getting 3 pistons, a new head and a few other things.

What happened? Not sure just yet, but it went **** up doing 70 on the highway under light throttle.

Most of the tuners that sell canned tunes will also be happy to tune your truck on their dyno. It you're looking for the high pony, spendy builders, livernois, full race, switzer and a few others are the game.

any canned tune will be more conservative. its a risk minimization based on standard deviation in production motors.

9300 rpm is about as high revving as you'll get in a v6. you can grab a motor like that for the low-low price of about 300K. Bonus, it will come with the rest of the supercar with it.

I don't know if they are competent or not, but if you're not doing any kind of data logging is it really a tune or just an ECM flash with a tune based on data gathered from another truck at another air density? If you were data logging and tuning, wouldn't you get more out of the tune with the big breathing CAI and a full exhaust?

Sometimes I think you're right, I should just order the SPD adapters, magic spark plugs, and the MPT tune.

Sorry about your truck. Can't wait to hear more details. When I asked them about tuning on their dyno, they wanted to know why I thought I needed the dyno to be tuned.

Your answer had me laughing pretty good. There is that Al Anabi 6 cylinder vette that is killing it. In the 3s in Outlaw 10.5 out in Qatar.

Isn't that 6 cylinder also something like 576 cubic inches?

I wonder what makes the 3.5 ecoboost in the Ford GT so much more reliable than the Raptor? The GT is making 600 hp stock and as far as i know they arent having engine problems?
