I was thinking about this a little more...

What about just a main hoop (b pillar) with harness bar in the middle, and tied to the rear hoop (c pillar)..

-Greg

A-pillar is the "weakest" point in my opinion, so i feel if i guy were going to not install a piece, it would be the rear C-pillar section. However, I will not sell as pieces, sorry, if a guy isn' t going to install a section thats his choice. Keep in mind I am building it as a full structure not making one piece capable of withstanding more than another. If guys just wanted a rollbar, i could build just that. but i would make it out of 2.5''x.25'' wall, with extremely large plates on the floor, and i am not sure how well it would fit, or look.

So where are the harnesses going to mount up? Are you thinking of securing them to the seat belt bolts in the back? or will you be building a bar?

Safety issues. The seats are meant to collapse backwards. Harness bar prevents that. Would be easier to make a simple harness bar that bolted in at the shoulder point of the stock seatbelt's. Even then, you are sacrificing overall safety.

Ninja Edit:

I understand the whole issue of wanting harnesses in the vehicle. They keep you in the seat better thus giving the driver better control of the vehicle while bouncing the vehicle around. IMO it is better to find some long harnesses and bolt them down over back of the seat to the floor. Still allows the seat to collapse backwards rather than restrict it from doing so. I did this when I first started track events in my GT500 when it was all stock.

Rick,
Correct me if I'm wrong but itsn't that usually frowned upon? I beleive I was told before that the shoulder harness belts should be at shoulder height or slightly above.

I think he wants to allow the seats to fold back in case you land 'greasy side up', and the roof comes in on you. but therotically, the cage is going to protect that from happening.

The harness bar will travel behind the front seats, from one side of the main hoop to the other.

I've been thinking about that, I allowed plenty of clearance between the main hoop and the plastic piece that says "airbag". But again this is for offroad use, and it may be advisable (while you are spiritedly driving) to wear a helmet. RPG at TRR had a main hoop and harnesses in Their truck and the side curtain snaked its way around the tubes. Soo.... Wear a helmet with the cage.

Hmm.... I remember them being out. But do you really think with a side hit like that, they didn't go?

Well, the first hit was head on. I am not sure how the programming works as far as how they are sequenced.

Take a look at this for a pic of deployed side curtain airbags:

This shows how far down they deploy:

Based on this, if they would have popped, you would think the pics would show it.
