So knowing the pit falls of off roading and whom I do it with. My new bumper has arrived, and no its not ADD... I am now pondering what winch to get. I have had probably more than ten winches in my years, Some good and bad. I have unstuck and broke more things than I care to remember at the moment. As I get older I have more senior moments and find myself remembering things from a long time ago all of a sudden. So since everyone on this forum likes to be so helpful and provide good information I ask you all. "Which winch and why"? If it is junk or was great let me know. I have had good ones from what I consider the top three and some pretty bad ones from them also. One thing I have noticed while shopping is the weight of these things has dropped a bunch, from well over 100 pounds down to a slim average of about 75 pounds or so. So tell me what ya think... I will have two now one front one rear... no more moving front to rear for me I am to old to carry around a winch..... So lets here what ya got....

I got a 12,500 lbs "Tuff Stuff Winch for under $400.00. (Chinese) I'm from Illinois. I have to plan to go offroading. I don't get to do it often enough but I will get out ( I hope) 5-7 times a year. I have used my winch every time I have been out ( always pulling someone else I might add). For my use the cheap winch ( my first real offroad truck and winch I will add) works great, I was not sure how much i would use it. If and when ( more a part of when) this one goes bad I will go for a name brand. I got mine at Tuff Stuff Winch | Recon Winches | Tuff Stuff ATV Winch | Jeep Winches and they had great customer service. just my thoughts.

Warn is popular when it comes to winches but quite expensive. If you want a more affordable winch, try to check out Engo winches - ENGO Winches - Save Up to 30% and Free Shipping. I have the E12000 for about a year now on my Wrangler, and have no issues with it. Been underwater and mud, and pulled out numerous jeeps using it.

I have the recon10,500 with blue synthetic rope. It had been through its passes with me.

The waren power plant might be a nice winch to have. Winch and on board air in one.

Also, see BigJ's thread about why not to have a winch and go with a come-along.

Finally, of you get a winch, I highly recommend one of these, a factor 55 prolink.

They are superior over the standard hook.

Recon 10,500 lb with synthetic rope for me. Good price and I like the synthetic rope. Cordless remote is handy too.

I will be putting my Warn 9.5ti on my Raptor. I used this winch on my Jeep for years and it have never let me down. I'm sure it will continue to serve me well on the Raptor.

Synthetic Rope is a neat idea, but I'm a fan of cable :) I've seen the rope fail too many times on the trail. In an area with less rocks, it may be great.
