What would you do? Low MPG on new to me Gen 2.

At 50K miles why would it need spark plugs? Modern spark plugs go 100K and still look pretty good. Unless the air filter is the original that was installed at the factory, it's hard to imagine how it could be dirty enough to alone account for 3 to 4 mpg. It's easy to check and cheap and easy to fix, and I suspect the OP has done so.

I presume that it's not throwing any codes - the OP would have mentioned it. The only thing I can suggest is to take it to the dealership for a full diagnostic stem to stern. If nothing turns up, then if I were the OP I'd conclude that the reason it gets that kind of mileage is because it's a GEN2.

What is the correlation with cam phasers and gas mileage? Not sure how if they were defective that it would cause low mpg. I would do plugs and go from there assuming the filter is in good shape. Also, check your intake ”scoop” that is under the hood by the grille. Make sure the retainers are holding it down.

what psi in the tires? Verified, not just what shows on the TPMS monitor.

at factory 38 all around, you can pull into the upper teens, or even 20 IF your speeds are 60mph or under. Over 65mph, and the economy will plummet. High 70’s and I saw 13.8 on the highway. in OBX / island time, I got 20.5, including a few days in beach sand.

Smurf is talking about tire PRESSURES, not size. What are your tire PRESSURES.

Couple things.

MPG is 99% dedicated by the driver. No if and's or but's about it.

My brother and I have identical and I mean identical 2002 PSD trucks. NEVER in the history of FOMOCO have two vehicles been made so similar.

Both ordered and purchased new. He routely gets 4-5 mpg better. 20 years ago, me being pissed about it enough we switched trucks for 2 weeks. Funny thing, his truck dropped in MPG with me driving and my truck gained with him driving.

For awhile when I worked at the FOMOCO dealer I was responsible for MPG complaints. IDS has a MPG calculator that is very accurate. 99% of the time when taking customers for a drive and showing them how to get best MPG I would get "who in the hell drives like that" from the customer.

Next thing.
Eco-boost, you can eco or you can boost but you can not do both. I can get 18 if I care at the moment, but 15 is expected and 13 is average while off roading

This is yet another thing the Raptor sucks at as I see regular F150 eco-boost get 25+ on freeway

Internal combustion gasoline engine has a very narrow band of fuel ratio operation. Other than leaking fuel on the ground the engine can not operate in a condition that gets 10mpg without driver input.

Lastly for the night, I never ever consider city driving for MPG. To many variables. Freeway only.

Interesting thing, wife's SHO gets 2 mpg better at 90mph vs 80 mph. Been verified many times in 8 years, 90k miles of ownership.
