I took the tires off of my wifes camry and gutted the interior. Put a racing harness in it with a bucket. I took the top and the tailgate off along with the spare for weight reduction. Ive also been running with only one license plate and one windshield wiper:GetMoney:

Yeah, I didn't get the truck to watch my MPG, I don't actually give a rats ass. I'm just looking to save a little coin on the haul west.

Realistically, the mods you're talking might (and I stress might) get you 1 mpg increase. Round trip, that's only going to save you 20 gallons. You'd need about 10 mpg increase to offset the mod cost.

A better plan would be be to do the mods for performance/fun factor of the truck and not worry about the gas bill which isn't going to be significantly changed one way or the other.

Doesn't the vette get like 30mpgs? Is it a 6 speed? My buddies C5 got like 30 at 90-100mph. Sounds stupid but get a little trailer for the vette and leave the truck at home.

Yes my C6 with the 6spd got 30mpg at 80mph. THIS car willl not do that. The new (to me) car is a 2001 Lingenfelter Twin Turbo ZO6 converted to a 4L80e automatic for drag racing. Rather than go into all that here's the FS add....
WTS/WTT TwinTurbo Lienfeilter Covevette Z06

This car is an INSANE sleeper. Nice and quite and still retains full interior and A/C. When it was put together money was no object and its got the best of the best at the time. Plain and simple, its a weapon...and you'd never know it. I'm not telling the HP or ET so dont ask. Its a car for Hot Rod Drag Week and during the event it will tow a small utility trailer, but NOT on the drive from home to the event. It will be trailered for that.

Here is just one overview vid for those that don't know what this event is.

I pulled a 24' camper to the mountains last month (4 hr trip) and got 8 mpg on the way up with a 5 star 87 towing tune. Switched to 93 performance on the way back and got a little over 9. Could've just been the difference in octane but it seemed to pull better with the performance tune as well.

beautiful car!

honestly the cost of the mods will take for ever to pay for themselves in mpg. best bet is to keep it slow. the econo tunes wont be good for towing as all they really do is up shift sooner and that will hurt u towing.

Okay, let's review:
- You will be towing and hauling in the neighborhood of 5,000 pounds, probably more.
- Your tow vehicle is a 6,000 pound off-road fire-breather that isn't particularly aerodynamic and is not widely recognized to be competition with the Prius for fuel economy prizes.

There is only one way to increase your fuel economy, and that is to slow down and enjoy the scenery. Earlier this year I towed a heavily loaded tandem axel U-Haul trailer from northern Alabama to northern Nevada. The trip was 2,042.8 miles and I burned 186.6 gallons - that's 10.9 MPG for the trip. The MPG varied from a high of 12.9 MPG to a low of 9.5 MPG. That was cruising well below the speed limit - usually about 65.

On the return trip I averaged 16.0 MPG cruising at the speed limit - from 70 to 75.

Conclusion: The Raptor is not a fuel efficient tow vehicle. And that shouldn't be much of a surprise, because towing is NOT what the Raptor was designed for.
