What is this thing?

So I was replacing my brake pads today and when I got to the rears I found this odd looking thing attached to the top bolt on the rear calipers, yes its on both sides.

It has no wires attached to it, so what ever it does it must do it wireless. Question is... What is it and what does it do?

I do believe they call that a brake noise dampener aka thingamabob aka doohickey.

Cleave, your wrong. Those are the flux capacitors. Closely monitor them. They must keep a charge of atleast 1.21 gigawatts
