As I recall it's a pretty solid piece of rubber. My guess is it's some kind of vibration damper.

I thought it was a smoke screen canister like James Bond’s DB5. You flick switch 1 twice and flash high beams once.

I think it’s a harmonic/vibration dampener.

It is just a dampener for vibrations to reduce NVH

It's function is to prevent your exhaust from bottoming out on a huge amount of rear wheel movement. Landing a jump for example might otherwise cause the exhaust to hit the frame.

Yeah it is indeed a vibration dampener to reduce Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH). It is very common these days on many cars.
