What does it do for tailgate assist, I have it but nothing is attached. Was adding a bed extender needed to remove the light

Assuming you have power tailgate? If you don’t have the power tailgate there is a strut that mounts there. Keeps the tailgate from slamming open.

Yes, it’s the tailgate assist hydraulic. I added one to my 2014 f150. It’s a very cheap part and easy little add on. It just lets the tailgate down easily.
