Regarding that recall, I had the cam phasers changed once, and I have been told they must not have used the updated parts? Could this be the case? Also, as a novice, what do you mean by the new calibration? That sounds like a setting, and not a part?

Program 21B10 is a PCM calibration update; it’s entirely responsible for the operation of the engine and VCT system. The original calibration was causing problems phaser wear due to a combination of duty cycle and oil pressure at hot idle. The new calibration corrects both of those issues.
