I'm a smog tech in california, so I'm not sure if this applies for you guys, but we don't even look at anything more than 3 inches behind the catalytic converter

yes, I have no muffler and no resonator
okay, ethanol, methanol and all their blends fueled vehicles must have all original emission control devices in place and in operating condition to pass a smog check in california, that's what I got from the alternative fuel vehicle appendix anyways

basically, any vehicle that was converted to run on ethanol must be taken to a referee station, which is kinda like a government run smog station, and they are inspected to see if they meet certain guidelines, if the vehicle can pass those guidelines all emission equipment on the vehicle at that time is recorded and put on an emissions placard/sticker which is somewhere in your engine bay, ours is on the underside of the hood, and required to be in place whenever tested from that point on

Right now I'm running straight pipes out of the headers! It's stupid loud and with WOT it roars.. My neighbors probably hate me haha but I love it!!

I like your style Pat. I may have to do something like this. It's already a beast at WOT with the cutout behind the cat. Not sure how much louder it can get.

ethanol blends reduce carbon footprint, but smog check doesn't really care that much about that, it's more about the partially burnt and unburnt fuel going out the tailpipe, and since nothing is 100% efficient, even ethanol blends put unburnt and partially burnt fuel out, that's why cats are still required on ethanol vehicles, and if you wanna know a little secret the aftermarket doesn't want you to know, catalytic converters don't reduce performance anymore, in some applications they actually increase it, I've compared the euro-spec and american-spec maseratis, the only difference was the american ones ran cats, and they produced 20-40 more horsepower, the euro ones don't run cats because they can ask the same price for the vehicle while saving a few thousand dollars per car by not putting cats on them

but unburnt ethanol witch is alcohol other than the gas that is required in it is only alcohol which is not a pollution? Is not the unburnt part of ethanol water and that bit of carbon?
I'm just guessing 100% alcohol is fairly clean compared to unleaded.

ethanol contains all the elements of gasoline, so incomplete combustion of it can still result in HCs (hydrocarbons, product of unburnt fuel) and CO (carbon monoxide, product of partially burnt fuel), and those are the two main products of combustion that federal emission standards and california smog check standards care about, catalytic converters basically are blast furnaces that cause the left over HCs and COs to burn off and turn into H2O and CO2

ethanol blends usually burn more completely than gasoline because they're more stable, but both ethanol and gasoline turn into H2O and CO2 if they are completely burned at 100% efficiency

I will post a video of my truck's exhaust once I have a camera that can capture it's sound properly and I have internet that won't take 3 days to upload a 30 second video, for now

Raptor R Idle - YouTube

put that at the highest quality, and that's pretty much exactly what it sounds like at idle, mine might be a little quieter

quality may be locked, but at least it posted at the highest quality and not the lowest
