…OK, not gonna lie, cleaning that case lip was a pain in the ass.

But I wanted that surface to be absolutely clean; spend the time and effort now so it’s one and done. Spent a fair bit of time degreasing and cleaning all the holes for the mounting hardware too, and used Locktite Red since I shouldn’t ever have to remove these fasteners now that I have a cover with fill and drain ports.

If I do need to remove ‘em, a little heat will take care of it pretty easily.

At any rate, once I got it all buttoned up, I put in 3 qts of 75-90 gear lube, then pulled it onto level ground for the last little bit.

I honestly expected it to be full, and start dribbling out when I pulled the lower fill plug, but mine took a couple ounces from a 4th quart before it overflowed the fill port.

Double checked for leaks or any obvious missed bolts, etc. and took it for a couple of miles test drive, going up and down the steepest hill in our neighborhood in the process.

Only thing I’m not happy with is that little bracket above the diff that holds the brake lines. It’s bolted down securely on the top, but there’s a tab that hangs over the front of the diff that used to go over a small stud on the cover.

However, the new ARP fasteners obviously don’t allow that, so I’ll go back in there and use a cutoff wheel on a Dremel to remove that little lip/tab that hangs over the front of the diff cover.

I finally got around to installing the Cobb IC, guided by this video from Offroad Alliance, as well as this video from CJ Offroad - they were hugely helpful. If you're planning to do it as some point in the future, give yourself extra time and see if you can obtain some sort of oscillating cutting tool (Dremel, Dewalt, etc) that will help with the trimming much faster than my rotary Dremel did. I'm not overly mechanically inclined, so it took a while, but it should be worth it with the ol' @GooseTuned tune tomorrow. Went for the black coloring to be a little more discrete. I'm thinking AMS boost tubes next, if anyone has any thoughts there; I know there are likely endless threads about it on this forum, so I'll poke around but it's been a long day, ha. The pink bubble lawnmower you see in this picture is my other whip. Please excuse the hanging fogs, they're getting replaced soon and they were well enough supported to not stretch the wiring. 912239A4-A072-4395-9117-DA275920141F_1_105_c.jpeg

This is the part I'm least looking forward to when I do mine. What all did you use to get it down so good to bare metal?

Started out with a plastic scraper and scotch brite pads…eventually had to (very carefully) use a metal scraper on some of the crap on the outer edges. That stuff was really baked on.

After 1/2 hour of that though, I got fed up and used a brass wire cleanup wheel on a drill. Was very careful though, used light pressure to make sure I didn’t leave any gouges or marks.

After I got off all the old gasket material, I very gently/lightly went behind it with 200, and then 400 grit sanding blocks, intermittently very lightly misting the work area with some light machine oil to very gently smooth out any remaining imperfections in the case lip surface. Working by feel, not by sight at that point.

Also ran a scotchbrite pad over the mating surface on the cover, and wiped it down with brake cleaner before installation too.

I didn’t use any rtv or any additional sealant of any kind on either side of the Lube Locker gasket.

Drove the truck again today and no leaks… Will watch it closely for the next few days though.

Yeah I hear you! The Braptors have been coming WAYYYY down in price lately - I think ford is reducing the prices a lot, they must have realized they were drunk when they thought a Braptor should be over $100k :rolleyes: But mid $70s might make them more attractive.
Exactly, we are waiting for mid 70s under 80k final out the door for a new Braptor. 100K was insane when 35 package raptors are way under that.

Got bored of trying to keep the b pillar shiny so I switched it up a bit. Was going to do forged carbon. But, when I saw this I thought it would be a bit different. Fired up the cutter and made these this evening. Took a little bit to get all the measurements close. Just thought I'd share.
far nicer than "carbon" wich personaly I am tired to see everywhere , so congrat on this !
What is the name/reference of this adhesive film ?
