Had that happen where I found that it would if I pressed in on it while hitting the release. Rope was closed in bottom of gate keeping constant pressure on release mechanism. Once I relieved pressure popped right open. May not have been your issue but may help someone else.Tailgate won’t open. So broke into my secure bed.

See the comedy in that though... much like the rest of the locks on this truck
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but any advantages to running a different diff cover? Is it just cosmetic or is there a benefit? I've seen a few guys do it.installed a ford performance rear diff cover
Yes, I had a loose rope in the back from a "golf cart recovery". Apparently when I closed the gate I pinched the rope between the bed and gate. This put just enough tension on the release that it could not move. Pushing the tailgate in sleightly at the handle/camera while pushing the release button dropped it right open. I have to add though I have a weathertech tailgate protector AND a seal around the gate to keep dust out of the bed. So the gap is smaller. It was soft rope so I can imagine this could happen easily with just a stick or anything in there. So there was something wedged in the tailgate? Cause I just got it open by doing what you said, but I don’t see anything in there.
The aftermarket has a drain plug so you don't HAVE to drop the cover to change fluid (my reason). And I'm not certain with this rear end but in others a stronger stiffer cover can help keep the gears aligned under extreme circumstances by stiffening the housing. However, I've not been messing with Fords enough to know whether that's true in this case.Sorry if this is a dumb question, but any advantages to running a different diff cover? I did it mostly for the drain and fill plugs to service the diff. it does look nice, too bad the spare covers most of it upSorry if this is a dumb question, but any advantages to running a different diff cover? Is it just cosmetic or is there a benefit? I've seen a few guys do it.
