I also visited the Ubehebe Crater, and the plan after that was to go to the Racetrack. But, that's a 27 mile (each way) trip on a 4x4 only road. Talked to a couple of peeps who were coming out of it and had aired down to 20-25 PSI just to smooth out the ride a bit. Didn't seem too much to tackle, but it was pushing 4:30, and the idea of coming back out, solo, in the dark just didn't appeal to me. SO, saving that for next time. Next day, time to head back home.

Finally, it was time to think about heading home. Drove mostly South/West to meet up with 101 for the trip North.

They said it couldn't be done!

And, sad to say, they were right.

Why 101? As I said earlier, I like this experience better than some bland interstate. Where else can you stop and see Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox??

Not sure where the next road trip will take me, but this is DEFINITELY on the bucket list:

All in all, it was a great trip. I enjoyed every minute of it, and the Raptor ran nearly flawlessly. The ONLY hiccup (and the only time it's happened) was once when I put my foot into it to make a pass, I had the dreaded 'slamming' into 6th gear. Harsh enough that everything, including me, jumped in the seats. I did a lot of manual shifting going over the hills/mountains to keep her revving happily (I don't like bogging it down with high boost/low RPM), and never had a harsh shift then, but this was a shift done automatically. No check engine light, no wrench icon, so I can only think it was just a 'funny' signal sent to the solenoids. Hopefully, not the start of serious issues...

Thanks for bearing with me through this read. SO yeah. Parked it, but after 3k miles give or take, and an awesome 8 days of Raptoring around the West.

Cleaned out my Cobb intake filter yesterday after approx. 10-12k miles. Wow that thing was dirty as hell, may have clogged the utility sink with all the bugs, dirt, and debris!

I added a few new lights and some new harnesses. Picked up the BD SAE fogs from @Ryan James Nolan and threw them on some mounts on the bumper. Also picked up a pair if S1s from @Specialtyperformanceparts and added them to the side of the XL80s for some side shooters. Then new harnesses from @Specialtyperformanceparts made everything a breeze. Thanks John and RJN.

Road trips are my favorite, they are even better in a Raptor! Nice pics, thanks for sharing.
