Yes. I have found that mud tires suck in snow/ice conditions. The KO2s have great siping and surface area and do an excellent job.

Finally got around to changing out my rear diff cover and fluid change.

Doing my by myself this weekend. Any tricks or pretty straight forward swap?

It's a very straight forward job. Definitely remove the spare for easier access and be sure to clean out the differential housing and surface after draining the OEM fluid with some degreaser.

for those guys who have changed out their rear diff covers quick question. I've been researching whether or not to degrease/ use brake cleaner on the gears when changing out the covers. Some do and some don't. Some say just wipe out the sludge if any and move on while others say to clean the gears. looking for opinions here as I'm doing my cover replacement this week end. Thanks in advance

Sooooo one mechanics opinion... if using brake cleaner on the gears, what’s being done to relube them prior to that 5500lb+ load? IF I were going to do that, I’d at least manually spin the diff in the lube prior to just jumpin in and driving away with dry metal to metal contact. Granted, the pinion SHOULD have lube quickly, but I’m more the paranoid type.

side note: I’d wipe out the bottom, but wouldn’t spray brake cleaner on the ring gear.


Now waiting for Oldfart’s “lube” suggestion...

I see no need to spray brake cleaner in there. Let drain, wipe bottom, clean mating surface and reinstall.

Your not going to hurt anything by using Brake Cleaner. I do it to insure I get all the wear metals off the differential. You will be amazed at how much extra crap you can blast off the unit. It also depends on how old the fluid is and how everything looks.

Fast forward to 6 mins.
