I had one of those hood deflectors on my Platinum. If you don’t put it on exactly perfect, you can wind up with a very slight gap on the inner edge where water can seep in.

I used both, no concerns with the prep solution, adhesive solvent can get it off if you want to later.

The prep is just some really sticky fluid, it sticks to the clear coat and allows the 3M tape to adhere better. To get it off I'd use some of this https://googone.com/goo-adhesive-remover-spray-gel

Only way I can see it scratching is if you used a knife, screwdriver, or some other poorly chosen tool. I'd use cotton balls, the wife has bags of those buggers.

So what would you use fishing line or something like that and run it between the hood protector and hood to cut the 3m tape?

I can't see escaping that without scratches.

I can see using the adhesive remover after the deflector is off.

I've been interested in getting one but had some concerns with removal when/if I needed to remove it.

Not today, but last week did:
- Ceramic tint all round (except windshield)
- WeatherTech splash guards
- Hard rolling cover (highly recommend)
- Towed my Wake Boat for the first time - towed much better than expected given the weight is close, but within the capacity.
