While you can operate the power tailgate with the top closed, it is a tight fit and will eventually damage the seal on the DiamondBack. Best to open the back panel of the DiamondBack in order to avoid that or adjust the back panel so the fit isn’t as tight but then you have a potential way for water to get in. I’m usually at the back of the truck when opening the tailgate, so opening the panel before opening the tailgate and closing it after closing the tailgate isn’t an issue for me.
