That is always the first thing I do when buying a new vehicle.
Did the same a couple days ago, got the sides matched with the rear and the front tinted a bit. So much nicer.

What if the air is moving to fast to do any good? Exp. moving along top of the hood instead of around the engine.
Is that possible, I suppose, but its soo far fetched it's kind of preposterous. Consider all of the things I've already opened up changing to a raceline bumper, and pulling some of rubber crap that was attached to the stock bumper, or people installing things under the hood that redirect the stock pattern of airflow, or some of the after market hood/fender glass kits available that completely alter the manner in which the air flows. Consider the many random engines often thrown into different vehicles as motor swaps, kit cars, built sand rail, etc etc. none of those motors or their cooling systems were originally designed for their final application, but they generally don't just shit the bed on cooling because of redirected airflow, hell some of them run right out in the open. Now consider the fact that all that is happening here is the widening of a factory outlet intended for expelling heat by a few inches. So far from likely, just outlandish. More likely IMO is that there is very little effect, and any change is all in the users head. All that said, I'm not a mechanical engineer or anything, and this is just my opinion, but it seems like common sense to me. If i notice any negative effects, i'll be sure to update.

Took it to the dealer, attempting to get a grinding noise diagnosed. And getting the shaft instead.

Got my tank mount in today. Now to figure out how to mount it to the rack.
