So I was able to tackle the rear axle pinion seal this afternoon and finish before dinner...NOT. I'm posting this as a help and for someone who hasn't done this on a Raptor. The first hiccup was the PITA the U joint was to get off on the bracket the attaches between the pinion flange and the driveshaft. And the second hiccup which lead me to post this for help, advice and as a public info post, was that Amazon, NAPA, Pep Boys, Advance Auto list the Spicer U joint for the Raptor or the F150 the same, (5-1350-1X) the bearing caps are the same size but the dimension across to the snap rings are 3.625 vs the originals I took off 4.188 (5-1410X) appears to match what I have...Is my truck a unicorn? Because the auto parts store list the smaller one and when I tried punching in the second part number, it kicks back that it will not fit? More research is needed! Anyway the pics below are just this afternoon's initial tear down. Tomorrow hopefully I will get more answers. Or just haul on over to the Ford stealaship and pay up for a set.View attachment 161294View attachment 161295

Yes...I figured it was, once I got the originals off and measured them, checked and verified the Spicer specs, ordered and delivery on Saturday ...as I mentioned before, all parts stores had it listed for the ones as the regular F150 and I searched the FRF also, only found one post back in 2019, un-responded, that someone asked if the U joints to get for his 2013 were the same found on the F250 and F350s...

So, thanks for the confirmation on the correct part number! And Yes, I intended on keeping a spare set in my gear, tools and parts arsenal also.

that was the same info i got too. i get the set from autozone, went back to the shop and dropped the drive line. realized it was the wrong size so i have to bolt the shaft back in to go back to the parts store and exchange it

Perhaps reply to that unreplied to thread with the correct information. It could help the next person looking for that information.

Better than google pinging on this thread and have someone try to search through 2186+ pages of other crap.

I agree 1000%. Wanted to get through the final repair/replacing everything before I reply, to make sure it’s all good.

Go to the dealer and give them your vin#, whatever you do do not drop or hammer on the driveshaft. I hope that you marked the driveshaft before you took it off.

Yes, I marked everything and counted number threads, etc., I’ve done this before, not on the Raptor. My main issue and point was that the replacement parts and I guess others might not necessarily be the correct replacement part for our Beasts, but for regular F150s.

I work on all my cars and trucks since I was 15. I get the satisfaction that I solve and fix it myself and done right. I pass along info that will benefit those so hopefully they can avoid mistakes or get informed of what to expect. My PSA contribution.

Anyway the continuing saga while I wait for the “correct “ u joints.
Once I took off the yoke/flange and nut the gear oil was very obvious that the seal was leaking. The bearings and the pinion shaft were tight and I had no prior driveshaft wobble or no loose original u joints. So, my original diagnosis that the seal just wore out still stands. The full replacement will also include new bolts for the flange, while not needed, it is an804F57FE-BF35-4159-81CC-4C81A352C553.jpegD7DC57E1-60E6-4DA5-97AD-2FB3579911D0.jpegC4C6D63B-14A9-4FDF-B0E8-15A069EC51F1.jpeg area that is subject to shear forces and I am already replacing this area of wear parts anyway.
