So here's what I've been thinking about.

I want some rear facing lights that I can run a red cover on during a run to alert approaching trucks that I'm there. Then I want to be able to rotate those down to illuminate the ground on the side of the truck so if I'm navigating anything tight at night (hee hee) I have some light. And lastly, when I'm setting up camp and unloading the bed, I want some area lights, white preferably.

So I was thinking, what about mounting a pair of LEDs to a radio antenna magnet mount? My antenna on my old truck never budged it was solid. I'm not sure it would hold up to TRR/Outlaw runs, but I'm not building for that, I'm thinking more for the SnoBall. Then if I need the light, I could move them and attach to the vertical side of the truck after taking the red covers off. Lastly, I could remove the covers and leave them rear facing and illuminate behind me if needed. For power, I was hoping to rig something off the rear cigarette lighter. I don't want to run wire all the way up front to use the Uplifter switches, and since it's kinda temporary, I would just grab the plug and cram it in there.

So, whadda think? Too redneck?

I didn't even realize it's riveted there. That might be an option. Part of my thoughts around the mag mounts is they can be taken down easily. Trouble is finding coated magnets like that with an option to mount a light. Off to search the Internet. Just hope I don't get sidelined with naked lady pics!

Magnetic Mount with 4 RigMounts - RigWheels Professional Camera Tools

4 mounts for 100 bucks. I'm not sure the threading on a camera, but I could check. Assume it's 1/4-20. I could pretty easily jerry rig something! I love it when a plan comes together!

Wsi and I will be looking at a couple of options..

As far as your idea, it should work for low speed.. Wind drag would drag the magnets across the roof...

Better than duct taping them to the truck.

Superbrightleds.com has a magnetic mount LED work light with cigarette plug on it. I would not use it for driving, not sure on the quality. But, for task lighting while working on the truck, it might be a good deal.

Dang Chayse, that's pretty much what I'm looking for! If it came with, or I could make, a red cover so I could run it (off-road at up to moderate speeds) as a super high mount tail light, it would be perfect.

Glad I could help. you would probably have to make a cover for it. they don't seem to have anything. maybe a lighting gel would work, cut it to size and figure out a way to hold it on there.

Hey there. It might look hideous to some but Federal Signal makes a bad as light bar that can function as a flood light front and/or rear, and can be used as beacons, and I believe it has tail and brake lights as well. I saw it on a wrecker at the 2012 Florida Tow Show. It's called the Valor. It has steady burn white light capabilities. Along with crazy flash patterns. Just a thought. You'll have lights front and back.

Nice find. They usually have good products over their. I have their bulbs in my Raptor & mustang. Mite have to invest in this light with magnetic base
