Warning about Whipple tune

Except that Whipple was not transparent.

They lied and said that anyone who buys their tune can return to stock.

They can’t.

I warned folks Of this last year and Whipple chimes in to correct me.

They lied.

They also try to imply that their tune is ford friendly.

It’s no more friendly than any other tune.


The other tuners who use NGauge do not alter your trucks original file names and you CAN return to a stock tune any time you want AND receive pcm updates.

Whipple makes a nice intercooler.

That’s about it as far as the Raptor goes. Your money is better spent on a better tune.

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a problem, stuff like this happens from time to time and it really sucks when it does, for everybody all around.
Whipple has always come through for us Raptor owners even though we are a small group.
I'm sure you'll get straighten out in the end, unfortunately the damage is done and your bitter now.
Just remember there are hundreds of others that are happy and have no issues.

I know that you made a statement about the dealer not wanting to flash because they were afraid or some BS like that.
The problem is Ford will not write another Tune with your security codes with matched vin numbers and keys without paying!!!.
And my understanding is that it wouldn't be exactly the same anyway, your original Tune would be flagged by Ford in there system.
This is one of the measures that Ford uses to help with theft.
And there's no way the dealer can write that up as a warranty service either, way too much red tape to go though.
Unless the PCM did crap out which does happen Tuned or Untuned!
And then Ford will take that PCM and destroy it and mark it destroyed in their system.
This is what I'm being told by a Ford warranty specialist that is a friend of mine.

Thanks for posting. I have been considering Whipple but was nervous based on previous posts. I will definitely be going down a different path.

Yep im no longer going with them. Seems like they are in bed with ford, they are ford friendly, REAL friendly. So much so that they are helping ford know which computers to flag and warranties to deny.

How about having a 2nd ECM? I Did this with my 06 SRT 10. 2nd ECM had the tune on it . Swap back to OEM one when taking to Dealer.

You can't have 2 ecms registered with the security code at the same time. It gets flagged in Ford's system.

Jesus.... I just ordered three stage ones for both my truck and two of my friends, they already in route, this sucks I thought this was the best option out there

I think the word "Best" is hard to use with any of the performance upgrade options discussed on this forum. They all have their plusses and minuses, but this issue is a pretty BIG minus for the Whipple stage 1 kit. Not being able to return my truck to a factory tune while getting it inspected or taking it into a dealer for service is a HUGE issue for me. Not being straightforward with their customers is an even bigger problem.

The three most popular tunes are MPT, Gearhead and Whipple. They all recommend an intercooler upgrade (Full Race, SVC, Wagoneer, Whipple, etc.) and a 170/190 degree T-stat. The rest of the add-ons are mainly for sound or appearances sake on our Gen 2 trucks. (i.e. SPD Turbo Adapters, Downpipes, Catbacks, CAIs, BOVs, etc.) Some folks swear by the SP542 spark plugs, as well. Several of the add-ons mentioned above also have CEL issues which can be resolved with various changes or tuning.

Svc or fullrace intercooler and mpt tune is the best option so far. Still waiting on ecutek and Cobb to release their tuning software. Some big name tuners are coming but slowly since most people are "happy" with the current crap available and just dont know better.

Intakes do nothing you can do modifying the stock intake.

5 star tuning is a joke

Whipple won't let you receive ford tcm updates.
