Has anyone whos window blown noticed a burning electrical smell before it happens. I had mine on this morning and later this afternoon got a real strong electrical smell, or was it just a coincidence? (The defroster wasnt on when i noticed the smell)

Yes, in my original post in this thread, there's a link to the first time it happened on my '10 SCab. There was a smell of frying electrical right before the window popped. IMO, the cause has little to do with cab versus ambient temperature....it's a electrical/design flaw issue.

Mine just popped the other night. I have the extended warranty is this something that is covered or is there a bit of debate on the issue.

I have disabled it from the remote start menu, and likely will never use it unless absolutely needed (unless ford comes out with a fix).

Hi Scrap man,

Your dealership will be in the best position to determine whether a repair can be made under your warranty. I recommend making an appointment so they can get this diagnosed. How many miles are on your Raptor?

Fyi I had the extended warranty when mine happened last year. Went to 2 dealership and they both told me it wasnt covered. One even told me that he thought something hit the window to make it pop. With no holes in the glass! Even after I told him I was sitting in it when it happened and told him to look up ford rear window defrosted on Google.

This is a huge design flaw on Ford's part and this needs to be taken care of. I couldn't imagine having a small child in the back seat when this happened. It honestly sounded like a 22 caliber going off.

Make sure to report this to the NHTSA. If they get enough reports of this issue Ford will have to investigate it and if there is a design flaw found they will possibly recall the issue and reimburse you the charge for repairs.

I have a little over 36k on the truck not sure the mileage when it happened but I took it to my local ford dealer allietta ford in wellsburg wv but they where saying it could take a while till ford gets back to them but I told them to order the window anyway so I sit and wait now. But I have to put duck tape on the window so I'm guaranteed that I have a back window while the snows flying and its 25 degrees out.

I guess I'm lucky, my rear defrost doesnt work. It started out with intermittant operation when new, then less and less reliable, then it doesnt work at all. Dealership looked at it last week, said they cleaned (the already cleaned) contacts. Picked it up, not working. The thing that bugs me about it is that the heated mirror is on the same circuit and if the rear defrost doesnt work, neither do the mirrors.

If the dealer told me it wasn't covered under warranty (and you had valid OEM warranty remaining on your truck), I would raise bloody hell! There is absolutely no way that they can deny warranty coverage on what is obviously a design and/or part quality flaw. Print off my thread on this issue (has happened to both my 2010 SCab and 2012 SCrew) and demand that they fix it at Ford's cost.
