Since your in law enforcement you'll understand my frustration. He wanted to know if I quit because I couldn't handle it and that's probably why I didn't understand his position. Even after I explained to him I retired due to the fact I took two bullets from a ************* that didn't want to go to jail and I wanted to stick around for my daughter that was 4 at the time he still was unfazed. It is sad all I wanted to do since I was a kid was be a cop and it didn't work out the way I wanted and then there are guys like him that just skate along and don't give a shit about his job. It really upsets me especially with the way I had leave.

"Used to be in the field yourself"...were you a cop?

Go back on an evening/late at night (when traffic is light) and get the exhaust yourself. Cops aren't DOT workers and we're not about to load an exhaust in our cruisers and deliver it to you.

And if you're such good friends with the Sgt, have him ****** you out there to retrieve it.

He took a few bullets... sheesh.

Yep sounds like a ****** day, especially with a cop on a power trip. Cops like that give the rest of them a bad name and you should file a complaint. Sometimes I think they forget why they have a job and who they are here for, the citizen (protect and serve).

It's a cop's job to play DOT and retrieve road hazards then hand deliver them to you?!

Are you serious? This ain't Mayberry.

Then why didn't he call DOT to have them remove the exhaust vs just moving it somewhere else?

From the OP...

...Then he tells me he should give me a citation for having an unsafe vehicle and that if he sees me there trying to get it myself he's going to tow my truck and arrest me. :3681700201_eef6d1e2

Sounds like he was trying to do the right thing to begin with.

I didn't read the whole post after the first few posts...sounded like a good old fashioned "Cop Bashing Thread"...

Sounds like the cop in question needed a better attitude, but I still stand by my comments about not being DOT. Maybe it's different in smaller towns where there's nothing going on, but in my AO, we don't have time for that stuff. We'll clear the hazard and keep moving.

Sounds like he cleared the hazard then cleared the call. How much time would you like to have a cop messing around with every item that falls off on the highway?!

That was not my complaint. I asked for assistance for two reasons. To get it off the road and try to retrieve it safely. I told them I would meet them there to help get it. My complaint is the way I was treated and talked to. If they would have said they wouldn't do it and he didn't treat me like a piece of dog shit it would have been case closed no issue. It was everything that was said to me and the manner it was said. I Would never do any cop bashing and I would never listen to someone else do it without saying something. This is about one officers bad attitude. I can see when it happened over the phone but when he did it in person after discussing my background is where I have my problem. Also never said they were DOT but when is job is sitting at the beginning of the road construction where it happened for his entire shift that day it is his job to make sure the roadway and construction workers are safe. Sorry if this pissed you off and I'm not going to argue with you over this since I know how dangerous a cops job is and how sensitive the subject is nowdays.

I agree. These types of threads always appear to come off as "******** cop this, ******* cop that, bad attitude, all cops are jerks and monkeys can do that job" but when in reality it's just one encounter where there is a disagreement. Then you get the members who chime in that all cops are *****, then the supporting members of Law Enforcement chime in next. No win situation usually, some like us, most don't. Have yet to see a thread started praising a Law Enforcement Officer for his actions, seems like only the negative comments start up a thread. But it's like the media, negativity sells and makes great fodder.....good, selfless acts-forget about it.

We signed up for it and know what comes with the job...mostly crap.

I am a huge supporter or 99.9% of Police. In our day, one negative move blows up and everyone is all anti-police. As you mentioned, only the negative comments come through in the media/social media. But when it comes down to it, if something happens to them; car accident, burglary, etc - they call the Police for HELP. Let them help, do their job, and move on. As a society, I think we need to praise the good graces of Police (or anyone for that matter, look at Yelp, only a few people leave good reviews, everyone else complains and tries to slander them over their bad experience).

I've had plenty of encounters with LEO's and have always said to myself that this guy/girl puts their life on the line every day and has to deal with some real scum. If they're a little short, so be it, they want to go home and be with their family as much as I do. So to all of you LEO's out there, THANK YOU for doing what you do.
