So, what it sounds like to me is that an aftermarket BOV is for nothing more than sound, UNLESS you run a Tune......correct?
Doesn't hold any higher boost without a tune, correct?
Any dangers caused by running an "open to atmosphere" BOV due to water or debris infiltration when off-roading?
Curious to learn more. Thanks.

Only benefit is going to be if yours is leaking, or if your tuned for more boost, and your oem is leaking. That and sound, if it tickles ya.
in theory it shouldn’t be a problem offroad, as it should only open when it is venting out. But if I was into water crossings, id probably stay with the sealed system.

I agree from the video that the compressor is NOT being spun in reverse from the trapped pressurized air...
BUT pressurized air being forced back against the compressor blades DOES put severe stress on the blades & bearings over continued use...especially over the course of thousands of throttle actuations...
Simply put, just because the throttle plate closed doesn't mean you instantly came off boost...if you run 25 PSI of boost, you're still going to smack 25 PSI back into the compressor...
Unfortunately, Car throttle isn't exactly an academic automotive source... Just an FYI..do some more research and you'll see what I mean
Thanks, but what about all the cars out there that are made without BOV from the factory? if it is that severe they shouldn't last either
I never did the vta mod to my factory bov, so I don't have a comparison. I will say that it is pretty loud when I've built boost about half way on the boost gauge and promptly let off the throttle. I can hear it clearly with the windows up, with window down it's rather loud and sounds like pressure release on a semi air brakes system. Just going by the sheer size of the valve and opening alone and the fact that there is no expansion chamber like on the stock BOV, it has to be louder than stock. How does the sound from this compare to the VTA mods we’ve been doing? Sound is all I care about.
