Truck sounds like a jet fighter now...

I currently have the stock muffler with just dual turn-downs (stock exhaust pipe was ripped off offroading). Since I installed the Whipple the sound and heavy throttle whooshes like crazy like a jet fighter... Kind of annoying. Any suggestions to fix? I would like to keep the downturn exhaust for clearance purposes. Should I switch to a single in / out muffler and run a pipe over the axle and just dump down? What muffler would you recommend?

Any suggestions appreciated.

You'd think the stock muffler would do just fine, I'm no expert on exhaust, but maybe extend over the axle at least or exit out the side, cut a hole in your boxside like @PorterW1111 did to his last truck, lol.

OP

1. any dump under the truck is going to have drone. 1 dump,2 dump, front of axle, behind axle, doesnt matter.
2. "like a jet fighter... Kind of annoying" these are fighting words, watch your mouth... I<3Jet Noise...IYKYK
3. for your scenario, i would most likely recommend a borla type s rear side exit exhaust, this will give you a good tone, and rumble at idle, but with smooth out nicely during daily driving.
4. the "if it were my truck" opinion is you should punch through the bedside like @CoronaRaptor recommended, look at my 39 tire build thread for details. run 3-3.5" from the collector into spintech 9000 mufflers and let those screaming eagles loose.

The dump actually doesn't really drone at all...the more annoying thing is the whoosh noise as boost builds... I want more solid engine sound... But all good recommendations. Thanks!

Do still have that small resonator in the mid pipe?
You shouldn't be getting a whoosh sound, not from the Whipple at least since it's pretty much instant boost.
Your chambers may have collapsed in the stock muffler, maybe, just guessing now.

Yea I still have the resonator midpipe...maybe the muffler crapped out! Any suggestions on a muffler I should swap out for it? I don't want anything loud or droney...

As for mufflers, I do not have any experience with them, sorry.
Just what guys post on here with video clips. For me there all to loud.
Since mine is a 2010 1/2 it does not come with the resonator mid pipe, maybe you should remove it and see if that helps.
But in my experience a whooshing sound out of the exhaust usually means blockage.

It sounds like your talking about intake noise. If this is the Whipple whine your not "curing" it with a muffler... Stay out of the throttle to keep from building boost, or wear ear plugs. You may be able to get a custom airbox fabricated that will negate some of it. The nature of the Whipple is loud, its part of why people like them, the Roushcharger would have been the quiet option.
