GEN 2 Transmission flush intervals

Hey everyone

I talked to the dealer about a trans flush and I'm being told it's not need/recommended

To me the fluid look like shit @15,000 miles and a flush at minimum should be done.


How often are you guys flushing the transmission?

Not flushing, changing....I've got about 15k....The fluid service seems to be a real PITA to do correctly, proper fluid level seems to be the problem and there have been reports of overfilling and all the problems that come along with that....No conventional trans dipstick...believe fluid is factory listed at 100K...but I wouldn't let it go that far...

Interested in this as well. I asked a similar question a couple months ago and most everyone who replied seemed to think my lack of confidence with the fluid being good to 100k was baseless.

Yeah I don't think any fluid will go 100k. I'm going to have a talk with the service department manager about it, I guess I'll get the bigger transmission cooler from full race or mishimoto.

Hardly....That trans is expensive...The latest I'd do a fluid change would be 50K....

From the forum posts here, it looks like the transmission issues happen early in terms of mileage. So I don’t think the issues are fluid related. Unless a trend emerges involving fluid related issues, I will stick to the standard maintenance schedule.

My 95 Silverado did, 125k actually. Shifted great until the flush, it has never shifted smoothly since.

No fluid is capable of “lifetime”... and at 100k it will be toast.

Ask yourself who benefits from no dip stick and no fluid changes... think post warranty period.

No it didn’t. What you experienced was you waited too long and the only thing holding it together was the clutch material that was suspended in the fluid. Change it before it gets so dirty that it’s wearing out your clutches and it would’ve lasted longer.

Correct, he waited too long, for the reason you said. At that point, he would have been better not change the dirty fluid and wait until the transmission goes out.
