So, I'm pretty sure this hasn't been discussed yet . . . .

I was down in Huntington Beach laughing at all the crowds protesting.... Not just laughing, but blasting my train horns because apparently, the Coronavirus isn't in HB or nobody told them about it. Nobody was wearing face coverings and zero social distancing. So retarded.

Anyways, after a few short blasts of the train horns at all the most precious moments, I decided to lay on a good long blast. ( After the air compressor filled back up ) So I hit the button hard and long as to completely empty my air tank ! It was REALLY loud. After I stopped laughing, I looked down and my dash is lighting up like a xmas tree ! Did my train horns trigger some type of sensor ? I guess I'm just lucky my air bags didn't go off. See the photos below for the errors and also the photo of the train horn layout as their location under the truck. The horns are under the driver / passenger on the drivers sided, mounted to the outside of the frame. The horn and compressor are mounted to the frame on the passenger side.

Obviously the truck is under warranty, but I still have take the time to it in to the dealer. I'm just really curious what happened and if it will happen again.

If it only happens when you use the horns, it's directly related to the horn wiring or electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by the horn solenoid/valves or compressor. The EMI causes the electronics systems to malfunction. The dealer will not be able to help you with that.

This is the reason that certain circuits, such as antennas and video circuits, use a shield wire in the harness. It is also the reason that harness routing is critical. I've seen wiring for aftermarket power running boards cause PCMs to set EBP sensor related DTCs on 6.7 Scorpions and I've seen aftermarket A/C systems (ambulances) with harnesses routed too close to the crank sensor causing the engine to stall instantly with no DTCs. It doesn't take much. As soon as the magnetic field collapses, a ton of EMI is generated.

I would start by inspecting all of your wiring, especially the high amperage circuits.

I was in crowds last night in HB....because Newsom closed the beach path during my nightly bike ride. It was either ride through a bunch of people or ride down PCH at night. I'll take my chances with the coronavirus over drunk idiots. Forcing everyone into a smaller space is going to accelerate the spread.

And all of this is because some ****** at the Orange County Register took pictures from the pier with a 380mm lens to deliberately make people who were on the beach look like they were close together....aerial shots by NBPD show people practicing good distancing at same hour.

Agree that was a stupid way to protest though... should've gone to the beach and set up 10 ft apart.

That's very interesting. Thanks for the great info. BTW, I like how you called the 6.7 a scorpion as that was the code name back in the day. I haven't heard that term in a long time. I was one of the first owners of the '11 6.7 when it came out and then I bought the second gen in '15 when it came out.

If a high amp draw caused a voltage dip any modern car would go nuts. Maybe your battery was low before shenanigans. See if it happens again before worrying too much.

Welcome! Yes, as you mention the 6.7 internal name was Scorpion. The Gen 2 debuted in 2015, and the Gen 3 just came out for 2020.

i at least hope there was some pant $hitting as a result. I’d have to say that from the perspective of being worth it, I’d probably think it was even though i’d probably need to do some troubleshooting.

@isis hit where I was about to go. Not in any way to counter what @FordTechOne is saying, but my first thought was how much current draw is that compressor, because from your story, you don’t know whether it was the horn blast, or the compressor.

can you elaborate on your wiring?
did you have anything else running when the compressor was running?
what’s the compressor’s current draw rating?
what gauge wire did you use?
are there battery home runs for power and ground?
how long are the runs to power and ground?
how long was the compressor on?

I don’t think the truck would even care about 40-60 amps for 1-2 minutes. [ damn... i can remember alternators that topped out at 60 amps ] unless something else was going on.
One of the reasons I installed the auto stop eliminator is that while my ~500 w stereo is playing, during the start up, the voltage at the amps drops to about 9.? volts, enough to scram both of them for a couple seconds.

if you have for scan, you can probably clear the alerts but they may come back if you repeat the process.

Ya, it's weird. It's not the first time I've blasted the horns full blast. I installed the horns about a year ago and it's not my first rodeo. The stock, original AGM battery seams fine as I even plug in to a battery tender routinely these days since I'm driving so much less. (thanks Covid-19 ) It's a 4 bank battery tender, so I got the wifes Edge ST and my GSxR750 also plugged in.
