GEN 2 Towing Track Car with 2019 Raptor - Need some help

W/D hitch, deavers and adjustable air bumbs, you'll be set.

And no way i'd take those cars overnight on an open trailer. Get a nice aluminum enclosed and dont sticker it up. You want to fly under the radar as much as possible.

Have you seen the trailers with the sliding ramp? Makes loading and unloading awesome, you dont have to squeeze in with the doors open.

Thanks gents! Looks like the aluma 8220XL + an anderson WDH should do the trick for now.
I'm trying to keep it simple and functional for the moment and will be building out an ideal enclosed trailer with everything on the wishlist.
Problem with trailers is they start a real slippery slope.
I want to get some real solid real-world experience before I go and blow $20k on a dream trailer + all the mods to the truck.

On the topic of security, I will be making this one overnight trip in the next 3 weeks, the rest will all be day trips for the most part.
What's the best solution to prevent theft of the trailer with my car attached to it?
Seems like a difficult problem because there's so many joints that can be unhooked...

Shoot me a PM, I deal with this a lot and dont like to post about it publicly.

Biggest thing is parking. Stuff the trailer in somewhere tight with the truck in front. Yeah almost anything can be defeated with a cordless angle grinder, but make it hard.

Stay in a nice hotel and pre-arrange to let you park up front. I've done overnight trips in a viper a few times and had to stay out in the sticks. Most places will let you park overnight in the dropoff section at the front door if you play nice with the front desk.

Check that setup out. My buddy has one and makes it a breeze to load super wide cars (Avy, etc)

I am wondering the same thing myself. I have a 16' Viper ACR Extreme and a JimGlo EGO (all aluminum open air) trailer and just got my Raptor. I used to tow in my Tundra with KING suspension and had absolutely no issues with it.

My trailer weighs in at approximately 1550lbs. (20') If you haven't considered a JimGLO I would highly recommend it. They make some of the best trailers in the business.

I, like you, decided to do the same thing and wait until I went all out with an enclosed trailer. I'm glad I did. I tracked the sh#t out of my Viper TA for about 2-3 years with my open air trailer and had a great time doing it, but like anything it fizzled out into something more occasional, and now I end up tracking my ACR a handful of times a year and am perfectly happy with that. On a side note, there is something very rewarding about towing a badass car (that you can see) in a badass truck which is why I still love the open air trailer. I'm excited to tow my ACR with the Raptor. Best of both worlds IMO.

As far as security, I have never once had an issue with security or anyone trying anything remotely suspicous and I've stayed at most tracks in California and hotels all across the state even as far down as Chuckwalla. (12 hour drive)

While only a one time occurrence, it may address any concerns you might have about towing a car on interstate 5 with your Raptor. I needed to move a 1969 boss 302 mustang from California to Montana. I rented a double axle car trailer from U-Haul, and drove my totally stock 2019 802a SCrew on I5 from San Francisco to Portland as the first leg, and on interstates for most of the rest of the trip. Let’s just say I can’t drive 55 and it was not a problem the entire trip. There was more than enough power and I never felt “uncomfortable” for a moment. As others have suggested if you purchase the right trailer, you should have no problems. Enjoy the ride.

Enclosed is coming for sure in a year or two. Want to get something quick and simple for now to just gets the job done with little hassle. Then as I get more experience and settle on a full time track car (likely a 991.2 GT3 Cup Car) I'll get a purpose-built custom enclosed trailer (hopefully with a V8 2022 Raptor!)


Meh, just get a vette then you can just drive it to/from the track & beat the shit out of Porsche & Vipers @ a much lower cost per mile on track than either. You know it, I know it, we all know it.

Not arguing with that, but Porsches are famous for tracking on weekend, driving to work on Monday. Really super reliable.

I like Porsche’s as well, actually wanna get the wife a Cayenne when it’s time to replace her MDX & I’d love to add a cayman 718 GT4 to the stable some time down the road when they’re not $100k lol

I honestly I think it’s the best Porsche you can buy today

I tow my 2018 GT3 to track events with my 2019 Raptor no problem. I use a Sloan Qwikload trailer, so total weight is just over 5,000lbs with car and trailer. Raptor tows it with zero problem. There is a little sag in the back, but it doesn't affect driveability at all. I'm going with Deavers +3 more for ride quality unloaded than towing, but I've been told it'll bump the back end about an inch which helps a touch with the sag. :shrug:

The reason for the upgrade to a true race car (991 GT3 Cup car) is for all the added safety - full cage, fire suppression, halo seat, reinforced fuel tank, etc etc etc. My goal isn't to be the fastest guy on the track.
I daily drive my GT3. Just 3 weeks ago I drove my GT3 from Seattle to Thunderhill (northern CA), flogged it on track for a full weekend in 100*+ heat, then drove it back home about at 2400 mile round trip in one weekend without skipping a single beat.
Main reason for towing going forward is to have some security against a flat tire or other malfunction.
