@m3dragon going into Service to get my IWE serviced 5k miles in and already having issues
Sent from my fancy walkie talkie

You don't count. You have a possessed truck as you already killed a transfer case. Even though we have the same year / build dates, I think yours went down the line a Monday as you have a whole lot of issues. =(

@ALL
what is the pro and cons of the Solid IWE replacement ?

Looking at the long term, big picture, pros/cons

Pros: being engaged full time, means no grinding into gear when meshing, no slipping, no shearing of teeth. Overall will lengthen hub life.

Cons: being engaged full time, means less mpg, more rotating mass, more wear and tear on rotating parts including front diff, which means more maintainance on front end (4wd disconnects at transfer case). If expeiranced Hub failure would most likely include replacment of wheel unit bearing hub, IWE replacement and axles.

In theory....

Yay Crystal! I'll shoot you a message! You rock!

Thanks, Sea! I sent you back some case escalation info. :)

Eventough its not a ford part.. what is Fords opinion of the Solid IWE replacement ?...

Hi sabumaru,

I'm not a technician, so I'm not a great resource for mechanical/parts questions. Generally speaking, we do not recommend changes to our products - only changes that have been thoroughly tested and approved by our engineering folks should be considered.

Crystal

Random thought, what about finding a way to convert the hubs to old school manual locking ones? Have to get out to lock them but hey, less things to break.
