The cross over is to ensure that the tires wear evenly from side to side across the tread of the tire. Going front to back is for the same purpose. The front tires tend to wear on the outside of the tread while the rear tires tend to wear toward the center of the tread. The goal is to have them wear as flat as possible.

Just make sure the tires don't have direction tread pattern. If they do, your only option is to transfer them straight back. Most tires we use will be just fine to cross the fronts to the back and bring the backs straight forward.

If you rotate the spare you will get a warning light on your dash because the spare does not have a TPMS.

That is a good point I had not thought of that. Do the TPMS run of some kind of radio frequency and if the tire has air in it there is no issue? Just wondering
If I was to rotate the spare in and the tire with a TPMS gets put back in the spare position could the system be fooled because all the TPMS tires had the required air in them?

Yes it will still read it from there. You will be fine.

SO question. WHen you rotate your tires will this throw off your computer that monitors the location? If so then how do you correct the location?

I rotate mine every 4k or so, Madcow bring it down here I can hook a brutha up. Having mine done at the same place with at least 15 of my trucks over the years and they pretty much only do 4wd's. My wheel is always perfectly straight--Easy Fix and tires wear flat--not even a little scuffing or feathering.

My thoughts on why the cross over method is best. Right hand turns are tighter than left hand turns and therefore the left front tire wears more than the others. By using the cross over each tire gets a turn at being the left front eventually.

crossing them over make the tires turn in the opposite direction... thus extending the mileage and the wear
